Which area is that for? Those scores aren't too bad so fingers crossed you'll get an interview!!

Thank you I would feel a lot better if that 4 wasn't there.

    It was for Notts.

I was successful in the last recruitment drive in 2009 and was placed 3rd on the waiting list after a competency based interview, so kind of knew what they were looking for, but I guess I must come over better face to face, as I guess most of us probably do...

Good luck everyone and fingers crossed for everyone who is waiting... :)

Got my competency scores today and I am a little disappointed..

    Got 6,4,5,7,5.

The overall rating has been left blank, the feedback is very limited on all. My score on the online test was in the 92 percentile...
I guess I will just cross my fingers for an interview.... Would be nice to know if I am in the running or not, but no other feedback...

I'd be very surprised if you didn't get an interview with those results. Know what you mean about the 4 though. I have one too and I keep glaring at it wishing it would change to a 5!

Lol mint25... :D If only it really was mind over matter for this particular subject.

    Good luck to you. ;)
  • I think that using competencies to do with work in DWP was a mistake as I have got low marks with competencies which ahve scored highly in the past. I know someone who works for DWP but he used competencies from a previous job and they got high marks on them.
I think DWP are wanting new people (external candidates) ,not internal promotion.I think existing DWP people have been treat apallingly.
I cant be bothered with applying or promotion any more as this has been a total farce.

That pass was only valid for a year and you also had to keep a copy of your pass form or do the test again. If you failed either or both you could re-take them!!! That was in 2009.:)

    Ah

I didn't have a pass form, had to get a letter from HR when I went to apply for another exercise.

I don't think it's deliberate, it's the nature of the beast. Competency-based selection procedures of this type (statements) do not have a firm empirical basis (or much of one at all). If you can evaluate evidence, then try to look for some - you'll have a heck of a time finding it. Structured interviews, personality and IQ tests, and even assessment centres have better validity.

In the literature, this method of assessment simply hasn't been shown, scientifically, to be worth using yet. A lot of companies are using it because it has what's called "face validity" - it looks good on paper, but that doesn't mean science backs it up. The DWP don't publish studies citing statistics to validate this approach (or if they do, I've not been able to find them). I'm assuming they do, because only scientific validation would prove the process was fair in actually measuring (or predicting) what it's meant to.
  • I would be inerested to know if anyone on here who has an interview or mega scores actually work for dwp. Also if they are aged under 25
  • Does anyone know how to appeal the marking procedure for the competencies?

I got 7,7,4,6,5 for Glasgow and have an interview but 5 x 2 for West of Scotland and want to challenge the difference in the scores. How can the same competencies be seen so differently!

    PM for you..

Yes it will be interesting,to see how many get promoted. At least if its not many the AO backfill exercise should nt take long. Then WE will be asked to train them along side helping the new EO's.

I dont mean competencies in general , I mean using examples of things you have done whilst employed by DWP.

I get the impression we may have been marked down using competencies to do with job roles in DWP.
