I have to say as an internal applicant although applying externally I did find it easier to do my comps this time because you could say I'm in the right place at the right time to get advice. When I went for the last fta posts I was working for a different dept. and found it hard to use work experience to complete the competancies and think I used helping my daughter on a bagpacking with the guides as an example for building capability or poss leading can't remember now. Showing her what to put where and how to position the shopping for customers such as not putting bread at the bottom of the bag etc. Got me through so just prooves they don't just look for work related but how you manage your life and can demonstrate this to others.

To those who have had their status changed to "on hold" did you all score above 80% percentile? or were your scores actually lower?

Sounds like these guys may get interviews then.

Cov/Warks/Hereford/Worcs area was my second application and this has now changed to 'on hold'. I only scored 65%, so I'm amazed - but maybe there is still hope!
  • New to this thread-Didn't even know it existed!

Went for Manchester/North Cheshire areas. got 94% (which surprised the hell out of me, 21/24 for analysis and 255/336 for Action Planning.

Still showing as "Your application is awaiting review.", and biting my nails down to the knuckles!

Been oiut of work for 6 months after being laid off from a Housing Association after 21 years of working there, and have been trying all over for similar work but with no joy. JSA runs out in 3 weeks, so worrying about that too. This would be the answer to my dreams.

Is all this stuff about the competencies all just common sense? It's like selling yourself to the employer and really if you can't do that then how do you expect to work in a jobcentre setting to help others into work?? I don't know what my results are yet still under review and to be honest if I don't get to the next stage it's my own fault!

I don't entirely agree. I saw the competency section and I also saw the guidelines and basically they want a dumbed down scenario (200 word limit only) that might not even be relevant to the situation for which you are applying.

A good well written well educated person may well have struggled to write a little situation to fit the criteria and may well have given a well reasoned but low scoring answer instead.

For people not doing well in competencies I really wouldn't feel that you have done badly or that you are not good enough. It just means you haven't jumped through all the right hoops and hurdles for this particular recruitment which involves a 'standardised' answer. If this is something that you want to try again in future find an online coach to teach you how to write competencies suitable for the civil service, yes it seems a bit of an odd thing to do but it seems to be the way to get through a tick box exercise.

Whatever your scores and whatever your competencies lets all remember that this is a difficult time to get a job and people are all different, so good luck to everyone that applied.

Just checked the status of my applications and although it was the Staffs & Shropshire one that had the status changed to 'on hold' still no feedback. However I just checked the feedback under the other two that are showing 'situation test completed' and I have feedback on the competencies under Birmingham and Solihull - 3 7's and 2 6's. I am pleased with that as I have not written anything like this before and I can see that the 2 I scored 6's on were a tad more 'overall' than specific examples- though as people have stated 200 words is a rather limiting on going into much detail. I wonder if that is good enough for me to get an interview - I was in the 94th percentile on the test.

However Birmingham and solihull was my 3rd application and I was hoping for staffs & Shropshire or Black Country. Oh well let's see what happens.
  • Well I've had mine marked and got a dismal 3 across the board!! :embarasse
Still saying reviewing results and application will be progressed shortly - yeah, straight into the bin!!!

    This is for Leic/Northants area.
Overall percentile 73%, Analysis and Interpretation Raw Score 19/24, Action Planning Raw Score 236/336

I'm beginning to think they don't know themselves what sort of applicant they want. There's a contradiction in that the first tests are reasonably difficult requiring calculations, comprehension skills etc, but when it comes to the competency just asking to make up a little scenario to get across only one desired attribute vaguely mentioned in their notes.

I would say you have a good chance to get to interview with that score, good luck mate, Did you use the settings up situation and result structure as your competency?

I am in the same boat, still need to see my results but I can’t see anything above 3 points, did you use the Situation Task Result Structure? Or did you generalise like me?

Yep, generalised to certain extent. Found 200 words quite limiting but I guess others didn't so that's my lookout then :)

Well that's a lot better than I did after starting off with over 90% percentile until the competency marking.
