    LOL that's funny - they outsource :O
I know, it made me giggle too. The advisor said that basically the Co the gov have the contract with don't have any offices in our area so thats why they outsource. So why did they bid for the contract in our area?? lol

well then how can that be unreasonable? It's not like (I hope) you were once a forklift driver and now want to be a doctor!

Thanks for all the replies, you have been more than helpful. Just one last question if you don;t mind, well more of a confirmation i guess.

When i first attend to the WP, is there a possibility they could say, you've been applying for these job for however long now, it's now time to look into other areas? And if they do, do i have any rights to disagree and refuse? Or do they have the last word and i must comply?

If my experience is anything to go by they are pretty ok to let you try for just the areas you have on your jobseekers agreement. I don't know if this will change after you have been on the WP for a while but so far the only person who has suggested I look in a different area is me, and thats as a direct result of the course I've recently been on.

you seem VERY worried! Don't be!

They look at your job goals and you say what work you have done in the past ie your last job and they ask you some questions like 'do you need help with your cv'? etc they are ticking boxes on the screen and they then ask who likely are you (in your opinion) are you to get job goal 1 you rate the answer up to very likely then do the same for job goal 2 . They ask you something like do you need help looking for work and they then rate you work ready or not (I think 3 stages from not ready to ready).

You will then get set some homework but I can't tell you what that would be

got to agree with this, the jobcentre advisors made the WP out to be some kind of huge punishment to me and I was dreading it but so far (and I hope I haven't just tempted fate here lol) it's been far from that. The WP advisors I've met have all been polite, friendly and as helpful as they can be and to be honest I think they treat you as you treat them. I have witnessed some younger people who have been very rude to the advisors and obviously the advisors aren't going to just take that and rightly so. If you are willing to work with them they are fine with you.

As for the homework well mine has been emailing the advisor a copy of my CV, applying for voluntary work and filling in a form for a better off calculation. Oh and obviously applying for jobs and keeping a log of my jobsearch, which you have to do anyway.

I would disagree with the polite bit there but as long as you carry on with your job search and sign etc treat this as something seperate and do the homework as set as soon as you can do you get it out of the way. Yourself , be polite, turn up on time and they wont kill you! :rotfl:
  • They have to give you the option to 'opt out' for data protection reasons, but equally you have to comply with your JSAg. Refusing to apply for jobs will lead to a sanction.

If you feel that there have been unreasonable delays in getting a WP appt, you should report them to the JCP. If these delays are not being reported, the people to blame are the claimants that are not using the complaints procedure.

OMFG So its the claimants fault that the WP providers are unorganised and not doing their jobs properly.
There is NO other proffession where you would be able to blame the customer except this it seems.

    Reed.

The point im making is that, if Reed disagree with my current job goals, do i have no say in the matter? Must i start applying for jobs they see as suitable for me? Or can i refuse?

    You poor !!!!!!!.
Click on my username and look for mentions of Reed in my older posts to see what they did to me.

Does anyone else feel pressured into saying yes to jobs the WP advise you to apply for? I must admit i do, i feel if i say no, they'll feel i'm not genuinely looking for work, even though that's far from the case.
