They have to give you the option to 'opt out', but equally you have to comply with your JSAg. Refusing to apply for jobs will lead to a sanction.

If you feel that there have been unreasonable delays in getting a WP appt, you should report them to the JCP. If these delays are not being reported, the people to blame are the claimants that are not using the complaints procedure.
How is not signing the form refusing to apply for jobs?

delays? I already had my assesment (in two stages as there was too many people and not enough staff in Aug 2011) then lost in the system for five months and then they said I hadnt been attending so I wrote a 9 page list of events to the Ops Manager whos lame reply was they have sacked a lot of people and changed their system.

Since that reply is not good enough I am taking up with ICE, DWP and JC also may email Chris Grayling as the stupid idea was all his!

I started on the WP in december and so far the advisor has been a good help. I'm a lone parent so I'm allowed to restrict my job search to p/t hours, I also have health problems so the advisor has taken that into account too. He says I must apply for at least 2 jobs every week, even if there is no realistic chance of me getting those jobs (which is bonkers but he's got to keep his managers happy) but so far thats been the only strange thing I've had to agree to.

He managed to get me onto an IT course within 24 hours that myself and the lone parent advisor had been trying to get me on for 3 months, he's done a better off calculation for me (I won't be lol ) checked over my CV (it was fine) and has suggested some new areas I might be able to volunteer in to get some recent references and experience.

I don't have to go back to their offices until 3rd Feb, and that will be for a supervised job search, it's going to be a bit annoying because I have a huge list of job websites that I go through every day at home anyway, still I suppose I will be using their electricity and not mine lol

Really? I was reading a post on one website, and the guy that was explaining his situation said that he gets told to attend quite literally every other week. Is it different for each individual? As most peoples situations i've read about require a pretty regular attendance (every week or 2)

I had my appt on 4th Jan not go to to back till 22nd Feb and my 'homework' was all completed by me on the 6th January that they set me and emailed back.

They told me last year I would only have to go to see them once a month - there is nothing consitant to the WP at all

What if they believe that your job goals are not realistic, and that you should be applying for other areas of work? Must you simply agree, or can you refuse to apply for areas of work that you are not particularity keen on? Or do you have no choice?

I am open minded when it comes to searching for work, i have three areas that i have stated to the job centre which i believe is more than suitable for me, not only me but employers do too, as i have had a number of interviews. What worries me is that they will ask me to apply for any odd type of work, and if i refuse to apply, they with cut me off JS.

Btw, can anyone answer this for me please.

The job centre would have set your job goals before you get sent to the WP. Who is your provider?

I've been 3 times now, each time was a fortnight apart and I had a one on one session with my advisor. Next time is just to jobsearch on the WP's computers. I don't know it will be a weekly thing after that.

I was classed as "work ready" basically I have a decent cv, have no numeracy or literacy problems, I don't need interview practice or confidence building so don't need a lot of help from the advisors. TBH the advisor pretty much said he doesn't think he can do a lot more to help me other than let me know about any future courses that he thinks I might be interested in.

    Reed.

The point im making is that, if Reed disagree with my current job goals, do i have no say in the matter? Must i start applying for jobs they see as suitable for me? Or can i refuse?

the first one I saw when setting the homework said 'there is nothing else I can really get you to do as we do not have people like you on this kind of course' - wow what a great start!

Nothing mentioned to me about job searches but maybe thats because I have provide full proof of all the jobs I have applied to for the last 6 mths and a list of the sites I use etc. I am open to anything that they can tell me that will help me but so far they haven't told me anything.

if they put you forward for a job you have to apply for it. If you don't you will get sanctioned, unless you have a very good reason such as it being impossible for you to get to the job or it being physically impossible for you to do (if you have a disability)

A good advisor should talk to you about what jobs they want you to apply for though. They only get paid their full fee if you are still in the job in a years (I think) time, so them pushing you into something you can't do is a waste of everyones time.
