Which Wireless Printer to buy?

Can speak highly of the HP 3050. Excellent value and operation.
Installation was simple - completely automatic connection to my router network - far easier and faster than the Kodak equivalent which I did for a neighbour recently.
By the way, one of the user reviews on the Amazon website refers to the software, when the printer is switched off, repeatedly checking to see if it has been reconnected and that this causes other programs to stutter each time it does a check.
I found this happened, too. You can watch the whirlywheel symbol come on screen every 10 seconds or so. The way to get rid of this is to remove all mention of HP software from your Startup Folder - there were 4 entries in mine - they are not necessary to be there for the functioning of the printer. Download CCleaner and go to Tools - Startup, if you don't know how to do it manually.0 -
My current Printer
I had a bought a ALL in ONE for three reason,
-Automatic Double Sided Printing
- Wi-Fi connectivity so no need to be stuck at the printer
- All in one saves space
it can Print, Scan, Copy that was wireless for my home use that included printing my lengthy university reports and community newsletters. I bought it cheaply in-store as it was display product around £80 compared to amazon selling it for £120 so it was a great deal. I have HP Photosmart Premium C310 series.
Observation
I find all modern printer now stop users from printing soon as the ink goes low, they say it is to protect the printer from damaging itself but printers before were able to run perfectly with minimal ink but e.g EPSON printer that I provided tech support too, did not work because ink levels were too low even though the black ink catriages (photo black + black) were full so it is frustrating to see this happen.Ifreebies

Hi santer, it,s not the heads or any ink problems. I had trouble with it, and had to do factory re-instal, if you may recall.
It,s never worked right since. I contacted lex via chatline, and they got me going again, spooler was playing up.you helped me for ages with spooler if you recall? Now however, it just keeps trying to print, heads come half way across, and just does that ad-infinitum.
I used to clear it using notepad, type test, print, it would try several times then stop. I could then carry on as normal then, the gllitch cleared, until the next day, and had to repeat .
Today however, it just keeps trying, glitch won,t clear, no docs pending, so something electronic must have stuck. When I tried to re-instal with my cd, it wouldn,t, tried lex,s from download, same, drivers weren,t installing.I let lex have pc remotely for 45 mins, she made it worse, had to wind back to restore point, and managed to keep it going, till today. used it last week and regularly printed a test page to keep it fluid and not clogging. I,ve ordered new one from comet online, here wed.
I cannot even turn it off, without pulling plug.it says no connection to printer, but everything,s correct.I think it,s like me, given up:rotfl:
just hope new one doesn,t suffer same.
Cannot even remember how to check if spooler is still on, can you???? worth a look, see if it,s turned itself off again
Question;;;Do I HAVE to remove my lexmark from add/remove before installing new HP3050a? or can I leave both on, in case new one doesn,t work?
Eternal pessimist I am.:rotfl:0 -
you can have both attached at the same time, you just have to be sure which one is the default. At print time you can then just use the default, or from the drop down menu chose the other.
When sure, just remove the old one and then remove the programs from add/remove.
Easy peasy...........0 -

I,m trying to repair the lex:rotfl:, so, wanted to leave instal, just in case I wanted to try it. Maybe optimism is setting in;:beer:0 -

Printer came, installed ok, BUT, not wireless as I thought; Good job Ethernet came with it, although still had the old one.
prints fine with cable, it gave me a report of SSid failure, pc is also refusing to go wire less, so both are ethernet.
first 8 test pages had blue streaks vertically all down the left, but last one, was ok; try and go wireless when I get a new wireless adaptor, as it,s a new router; bit noisy but quick;good quality print;(tempting fate here).stays as it is, I will be happy; keeing the box, as, anything I buy, always has to go back; I,m lucky to be unlucky;:rotfl:
thanks for all your help, and especially, callistris:beer:0 -

I wasn,t bothered about wireless in the first place, as they sit side by side anyway.For the price, it was an added bonus, if it worked. As long as it scans/copies/prints, that,s all I need, OCCASIONALLY;
1 gripe,"" when I tried to scan/copy, scan is ok from on screen interface, menu;; but copy, I had to use the little digi display on printer. maybe I haven,t found it yet, but, if it,s wireless, all tasks surely should be available from on screen interface menu.??
Where have you seen genuine inks @ £15 per set?:beer:0 -
Hi, Same as you hp3050a. I said I may encounter wireless difficulty, because, I,ve been having connection problems which all pointed to dodgy wifi card, ;so I,m not surprised about the failed wireless set up.I can try again when my wireless comes back, it,s an intermitant fault, it will probably pick it up next time I try;(optimist mode again)

Here well not £15, but a bit cheaper instead:)
The dodgy wifi connections are between your pc and router I thought?
Your printer doesn't have to connect to the pc, it connects to your router. If you're getting an SSID error, log into the router and check to see its broadcasting your SSID.
While your there check to see if it has something called WPS. This is the easiest way to connect your printer to the router.
If its there (as its new I expect it is) follow the instructions there to connect the printer up to the router.
Are you still using the ethernet cable to connect the pc to the router?
Once the printer was connected to the network, I put the disc in the pc and selected the top option, then I selected the network (ethernet/wireless) option.
From there the software just got on with it, and installed the printer.
You have to connect the printer to your network first for this to work:)
With regards to your 1 gripe about copying, I dont have the function to do that from the computer, as its not a worry for me as I scan/copy from the printer anyway. As scanning I can select to scan to my pc from the printer or do it from the pc. Copying is literally printed there and then so no option for wireless is need for this or control from the pc:)0 -
You wouldn't really need the copying feature to be available on-screen at the computer.
If you are copying, you need to be next to the copier to feed the machine with what you are copying - you wouldn't want to be moving backwards and forwards between both machines every time you fed a sheet of paper through.
Your wireless problem must be between your router and your pc. If you follow the instructions as they appear on-screen from the set-up disc, the whole process is automatic and doesn't need the ethernet connection.0
