I have been set the task of choosing a wireless printer for my parents. It needs to be:
- Reliable in terms of wireless useage
- Moderate usage - so reasonably priced replacement ink
- Ability to scan
- Not too big in size
- Under £100

Check out your local Sainsburys, my local is selling Epson SX435 All-in=1 Wireless printer scanner for around £50
Think you can get it a few £ cheaper in PC World/Dixons.
It uses 4 individual cartridges and you can pick up compatibles for £5 each.

Have you a number for how many sets of ink are used per year?
Are many photos printed?0 -

Hp3050A all in one colour wireless printer, a snip under £35 and free delivery on super saver option, inks are very reasonable too at £15 for the genuine set:D
I got this myself and its really good, as it also has eprint meaning you can print to it from anywhere if it can be emailed and is also "Airprint" enabled if you need to print from iPhones or iPads:)0 -

If you go for an epson like this you may as well get a higher model
for £55 the SX535WD

Duplex printing, wireless, a paper tray instead of the paper feed at the
back, slightly quicker priting, better scanner resolution etc etc0 -
Don't go for a Lexmark one, they cost a fortune in ink, have just spent £48 on 2 cartridges.
Also have a HP Photosmart one, but ink lasts days and it takes 4 cartridges.
Someone said to me to get Kodak as ink is cheapest of all. If you are not in the practice of running loads of photos off, they last the longest too, so I have been told.
Am waiting for them to come down a bit, before buying one. May come a lot cheaper as Kodak are in trouble. Have 3 printers in my house, all useless0 -

Have you considered compatibles? Check for prices but available here with a refill by post option for some Lexmark's

Thanks for the suggestions, looking at all of the above options. I currently have Lexmark and definitely would not buy one of these based on the price of ink.0

I'm also looking for a printer. I haven't read the small print on this but it may be of interest to you or your parents if you go the Epson route

This is useful. I'm going to look into the various models, but comments very welcome; is this the best value printer/copier/scanner with good compatible ink availability of the various Epson models at this price range?0 -

There is the cheaper epson SX235W all in one wireless one for £34.99,
fairly similar printers.
Just the SX235W has a paper feed at the back, no lcd screen, no memory card slot, no duplex printing.
compatible inks for both are about £6 a set or you can get refillables for
£15 and inks to fill them up with for £6.50, works out at about 30p to fill a cartridge.
SX235W £37 @ box.co.uk

or £39.99 at argos, tesco and currys0
