does the Mustek firmware allow the unit to record in stereo ?

all things look the same apart from the start up screen, cant see any mor options in av centre for stereo etc, but running more reliably it seems,
i have found that mine hasnt crashed when starting or watching a film but when i close a film, but one which i have watched and the "last memory" option is on in the setup menu, so i have turned this off, on some i have an image in thumbnails on the device as if a file is say half way thru where i left it, when i open it it goes to the start of the video then when i close it it freezes, anyone else found this? also crashes every time with a large picture, one i had was approx 3000 x 2400 resolution, wheh i zoom into 4 times the colouring goes, when i then press play/ok to zoom back out it locks up! anyone noticed anymore common ones? hoping the goodmans v1.2 will turn up, whats the main differences on this anyone know? thanks

also 40gb is too little - minimum you want is 80gb

Try to record something on to the unit and check the video using a tool called 'media info'.
It will tell you all about the video file including the type of codec used and if its mono or stereo.
That will tell us if the Mustek firmware records the same is the Goodmans.

At the moment the Goodmans records and plays back video only in the following format:

video stream: MS MPEG-4 v3
audio stream: 1 channel, ADPCM

The 'firmware' disc that Goodmans send out is infact the same 'software' disc containing the Arcsoft MediaConverter.
It does not contain any new firmware.

My son went onto mustek site to update his grandad's PVR and I changed my start up screen to one of my own piccies and also changed the sound to one of my own sounds, I have had no problems with my disk at all but my father did and my son sorted it for him (read above).

All in all, it was a very very good deal

I recently bough a Dual (brand) one from Asda - 80gb, twin tuner, all connections you could throw a stick at - it's been great so far.

Price ? - £80.00

I think you are talking about a actual recorder mate, this thing is pocket sized with a screen to view playback.
