  • You don't understand how JSA works because you, like so many who get their 'facts' from the popular press ignore the conditions required to receive JSA and that there are conditions at all.

Too many people seem to genuinely think that the JC just hands out money the moment you enter no questions asked.

To those that think life on the dole is la vida loca all I can say is give up your job/get fired and find out for yourself. By your logic you will have nothing to lose.
  • I can tell you I know all about the conditions. But in response to why don't I get fired to sample life on the dole, why would I do that?

I'm aware life isn't a bed of Roses on job seekers (and why should it be?), but my point at the very start of this, was that people say there are not jobs out there. Well there are! Just not jobs that certain people on JSA want to do for a living or feel is beneath them. Well when your unemployed a job is a job and you can't be picky. Also if you feel that life is so tough on JSA, why don't you get a job?

Once again people are using the 'slavery' argument...I imagine they would find life as an actual real life slave a bit of an eyeopener.

Slaves are forced to work under pain of death or punishment and have no say in their own destiny. No-one is forcing these people to do anything and they very much retain free will. It's just that from here on in those who have been out of work and suckling from the tax payers teat for a significant period will be expected to do something in order to continue picking up their benefits.

I understand that the benefits culture is very entrenched and also, that jobs are harder to come by these days than a few years ago. However this country cannot support an ever growing and generationally systemic non-working underclass on an indefinite basis.

No doubt there will be numerous instances where this approach seems individually unfair but on a macro level I'm just glad someone is taking a stand...
Go round the green binbags. Turn right at the mouldy George Elliot, forward, forward, and turn left....at the dead badger
  • These people who have been "suckling from the taxpayers teat" have in many cases being paying tax and national insurance all their lives. Also the state has a moral responsibility to support all its citizens like it or not. Otherwize we are back to the victorian workhouse or people just begging and living on the streets.People would be moaning then!
People are unemployed because theres hardly any jobs not because they are "entrenched in a benefits culture"- thats just Daily Mail ideology that supports the tories.

Well I just (briefly) searched for jobs in several places around the uk on http://jobseekers.direct.gov.uk and each search brought up over 250 jobs in each location. If you open your eyes and try to search for a job properly you might have more luck!

There are also jobs for unskilled workers too. All I'm saying is when people say "there are no jobs" that's BS. There are jobs out there. They are hard to get and it can take a while to get one but life isn't easy.
