One of the reasons that we have a large unemployment issue is not purely that there aren't the jobs out there... it's that there aren't the jobs that they want. By this, I mean that quite a few people are going for unrealistic jobs, moaning that they don't get them, and nobody is addressing the issue.
    Evidence please.
  • i personally think it is a good idea to a certain extent, there are alot of people on benefits who do take the mick quite a bit, i dont think someone should have to work full time to get benefits but some people do need to have a kick up the bum and do something,

alot of the time people go on benefits and get stuck in a rut but sometimes when put in a job it will give them the confidence to possibly think more about what they want to do in life.

in some cases there are people out there that are on the dole and genuinly do try their very hardest to find a job so in some cases this is going to be a bit de-grading for them people but alot of people are on benefits simply because it wouldnt pay them to work because somepeople would earn less working that they would not working.

there also need to be proper rules set about with this because my uncle was treated unfairly by this method of non payment for work, he has always worked full time and the company he was working for started to get in trouble and he went many months without pay and had to take the case to court to get what he was owed, then while searching for a job he signed onto jsa, he was literally on it for a few weeks and they made him work unpaid full time ( think it was for about 6 weeks) luckily for him though he was kept on in the company and has worked there full time ever since but it seemed very unfair that he wasnt even given enough time to get a reply from cv's that had been sent out.

i don't want to be forced into working for 2 quid an hour, done it twice before cause i thought it help me get a job in IT but it didn't, now i still want to work in IT but i dont wanna be pressureised into working for supermakerts or private compaines so they can profit off not paying a wage.

This is what angers me with some people on JSA (and I use the word some cause I am aware not every one on benefits are like this). When searching for a job they have one in mind that they want, in the above posters case IT. Which is fine to have a dream job in mind, but remember you are unemployed, not really in the position for being picky. They narrow their search down to one job and if it isn't out there they just stay on benefits. If you are on JSA you should be applying for any job that you meet the criteria for. Bar work/cleaning/office work whatever is out there it should be applied for. Some on JSA seem to feel certain jobs are beneath them and are just happy to sit back and get JSA till this dream job comes available.

I currently work 2 jobs, one full time and one part time and I can safely say if I was made unemployed from both I would certainly claim JSA, but every single day I would been in he job centre and online applying for any job I could.

  • I've worked over the years with loads of unemployed people,I can count on one hand the people who wanted to stay on benefits. These people were not on JSA, they were on incapacity benefit,DLA and then got housing benefit and council Tax benefit. Its just not true that unemployed people do not want a job. This is the myth that the Government wants people to believe, can you not understand the propoganda? Look in the jobs section of the papers and look for the jobs.I live a big city with about 1 million occupants, theres about 10-15 jobs on job night.
The unemployed dont need a kick up the a*se, they need proper jobs, which are not there. No government scheme like this can make it better.A lot of the employed need educating about how the economy works in this country. Its a basic lack of understanding/ignorance that underpins these stupid comments.
  • well not everyone wants to stay on benefits but theres heck of alot of people who love being on benefits just simply because they can have a life go out, have everything paid for and they can roll out of bed what ever time they like.
The government make it to easy for people, why would most people want to go out to work come home exhausted and not have much time to spend with their kids when they can make more money by staying at home.
my partner works 6 days a week and i work 4, we have a 4 year old soon who is only is half day school and expecting our second in august we works these hours just basically to pay our bills and put food on the table we cant afford to go on nights out and we rarely have money to go on days out with our son, but then i know of people who don't work who have iphones, nights out, days out without going in to debt so tell me how that can be fair and i know these people who have these luxuries are just laughing at the government for making their life so easy so sometimes i just get a bit annoyed about people having so many benefits and basically laughing at people that are working, i'm not putting a label on everyone on benefits because i know there are some genuine people out there but this scheme is for people that have been on jsa for over 3 years, 3 years is heck of a long time to be searching for a job and sometimes people think they are to good for a job but sometimes people do need to lower their standards because once you are in a job you can always work yourself up.

i dont want to sound horrible in the way im writing but i'm just trying to get my point across.

Out of interest, would this mean you'd appy for a vacancy as a sex worker for example? Such vanancies HAVE been advertised in the JobCentre and the local press.

Yes, jobs advertised in the jobcentre have included brain surgeon, headmaster and astronaut. lol

I kid on the last one.

These professional jobs are there as fillers only. Massaging the actual numbers of jobs available-make your own mind up.

Strangeotron- You cant deny that there are genually some lazy !!! ****s who really cant be assed to work. Some are even proud of the fact they do nothing and boast around how care free thier lives are. (I have personally seen this as I used to work for a bank and met several customers like this)

In this sort of case, it COULD work, forcing them to do something/giving them a kick up the !!!. Of course not everyone is like this (thank god)

How will this 'kick them up the !!!!'? The people to which you refer represent a tiny minority, the sort that exist in all walks of life. The amount lost to benefit fraud is negligible and about half what is lost due to the department's own incompetence/deliberate action. Should we penalise the incompetent staff at the JC as well? Make them work for nothing?

You are missing the point again: if there is work for people to be doing, why not pay them to do it? You wouldn't need to kick people's !!!!!!, you'd be employing them!

You obviously don't understand how JSA works.

Jobseeker’s Allowance is the main benefit for people of working age who are out of work or work less than 16 hours a week on average. If you're eligible, it is paid while you're looking for work.

I understand if you get a job at over 16 hours a week on average you will not be entitled to job seekers. Is this what you are afraid of and trying to avoid?
