Job centre why isn't this number free

The 0845 we have is a national rate number. And all our 0800 are free from landlines and the main mobile phone providers ie orange, t-mobile etc and have been for nearly 3 years. The jobcentre dosen't have any premium rate numbers.
btw I work there
And both 0845 and 0800 numbers are charged by mobile operators. They are NOT free! Not everyone has access to a landline phone and even if they did, the 0845 numbers are not usually included in inclusive call packages.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I think you'll find that I never stated that the 0845 number was free I merly corrected someone who said it was a premium rate number.
As for the 0800 numbers ie crisis loans etc they are free including from the main mobile phone providers as it was an initiative set up by the government so that everybody would be able to call these numbers if needed.0 -

I'm with O2 who I'd describe as a main mobile provider but I don't get free 0800 calls and I don't know of anyone else that does with either Orange or Vodaphone, so which ones are you referring to?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

It's not to all 0800 numbers just the ones in dwp and 02 have the agreement in place and have since January 2010, so do orange, t-mobile, vodafone and tesco mobile. There is a whole thread about it in the benefits forum if you still disagree0 -

If that's the case then why aren't ALL numbers to the DWP an 0800 number?“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -

I think that's a question you need to raise with the secatary of state not me, I don't make the rules and never said I agree with all of them0 -
1. 0845 is a local rate call
2. The job terminals in Jobcentres are going to be removed, DWP thinks most claimants have internet access. There will be some way for those who don't have internet access to browse job vacancies.
Normally if you walk into a JCP, if you need to contact another office for any reason they will direct you one of the telephone booths. These use of these phones was abused over the last ten years when people were going in and making personal calls nationwide. Most if not all can only make local calls if its not a DWP number (for the purposes of contacting an employer - although if the employers contact number is miles away you need to see an adviser and use their phone).0
