JC+ can be held responsible for using for using a premium rate number for accessing their services. What is wrong with a geographic number, I can call one of those for 5p for as long as I want plus they are included in the inclusive contract minutes. There is no excuse for the use of a premium rate number. 0844 numbers are revenue sharing so JC+ did make money from the call, possibly up to 2.5p per minute.

I stand corrected - many thanks

I've never had a problem getting into the jobcentre [either in Newcastle or Stirling] when it wasn't a sign on day.

Now getting the call centre to pick up the phone. I tried to sign off on Friday, I had to go in today to be able to speak to someone!

You find now. That the unformed heavy on door will not let anyone in unless they have a appointment. Or are to sign on (And then only if they produce their signing card)

depends on the JC as im sure mine wasnt like that although i never tested it, there were G4S security guys but none on the door stopping non appointments in.

I suppose you have a list of all these cheap phone numbers then? The fact of the matter is that the jobcentre are imposing costs on the unemployed that aren't needed when not so long ago you only had a form to fill in.

You could use say no to 0870 to find a cheaper number if there is 1.

Great, have you got a time machine to go back and do that instead?

I think it odd that security guards stopping people entering the jobcentre might be a rough area. As for the phone number i always use the free phone in the jobcentre to get hold of that number. I think they introduced the 0845 number to stop people calling about jobs and benefit enquiries.

I too find it really annoying that state services operate with a 0845 or 0871 number. I do not have bt land line, and while I was establishing Land line contracts i had to do all communications by my mobile. Geographic numbers are included on most mobile contracts, so why do these services switch to 0845 etc. Even my doctor surgery use them. And you phone up, they connect the call, and keep you in a queue, so you have to pay to be in a queue. Its just wrong!!
