my JCP office have free phones with direct dial to JSA HQ etc.. can also call locally..
NB: they are more than likely recorded / monitored for security purposes, blah blah!Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
Hi, my son had to contact the job centre to sign on - he was on hold on and off, the call cost me £1.67 dosent seem alot but some people couldnt afford to pay - why aren't these numbers free.
08444 96 8000
As DCFC79 suggested, checking http://www.saynoto0870.com will give alternative numbers, some even free on mobiles depending on what network/contract you're on.
It's definitely worth a try on all 0870's, 0845's etc

I need to call the job centre, because they have made an error and my money has not gone into my account. I have no credit to do so. How do they expect me to call them when they have made an error and not paid me?
If this were an 0800 or local number, i could call them. What do I do? There is also not a number listed on the say no to 0870 site for my job centre. I am fuming.Total debt Aug 2012: £3800, Nov: £3225, Dec: £3151.45 2013: Jan: £1544.24 :j Feb: £1492.03
Sept 2013: Debt free

Why not just use an email telling them you want an appointment at the office (give the address) and some times that are suitable for you do not let them tell you to call the 0845 number. for nearly 2 years now I have only made contact by letter or email, and they are never going to get any phone details out of me, even though they have asked.
forgot to add you can find how to contact the office here http://los.direct.gov.uk/default.aspx?type=1&lang=enSomeone please tell me what money is0 -
0800 0556688 does come up on Saynoto0870 but who knows if it works.
This sounds like the doctors' surgery one all over again - having to hang on for long calls to 0844 numbers.
It must affect low income young people who don't have a landline at home even worse.0 -
You can apply for JSA first appt on the internet. You can also browse their jobs on the internet.
You can also browse hundreds of other jobs through other sites on the internet. You dont need to call that number.
Actually thats not always true.
Some roles are set up on the Jobcentre website that you HAVE to phone them to get the details and I've spent 10+ minutes on hold to find out how to apply for a role only to be given an email address or phone number for the hiring company.
There was limited information on the Jobcentre posting and the only application method shown was the Jobcentre telephone line. It was a job I would have been picked up for not applying to and since it was a few days after my appointment if I had waited 10 days until the next time I had to go to the Jobcentre (the only time I left the house and spent bus fare whilst I was unemployed except for interviews) I would also have been told off for not applying promptly.
I do have to note that in our local Jobcentre the job points and courtesy telephone were in a section you could access before the security guards stopped you. They only stopped you and asked for proof once you tried to enter the 'officey' part.0 -
The local Job Centre may be ten's of miles away, It is in my case, Good thing that I don't have to go to one.tomjonesrules wrote: »Are you unable to walk? If you do not have impaired mobility, you will be able to hop along to the local JCP and use their phone to contact the BDC.0 -

Hmm.. jobcentre haven't sent that persons money so they should go to the JCP offices... which will mostly likely cost them bus fare at least equal to the phone call.
I know for me its £1.80 for the bus fare there and back.0 -
