This number works instead of the 0845, I just used it to ring about my ESA but you get all the same options.Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0 -

The 0845 number is national - whatever postcode you put into the direct.gov site you get the same 0845 number which will connect you to your nearest JC.
The 0191 number is specific to your area, in the north east, and will get you connected to the JC for that region.0 -
The 0845 we have is a national rate number. And all our 0800 are free from landlines and the main mobile phone providers ie orange, t-mobile etc and have been for nearly 3 years. The jobcentre dosen't have any premium rate numbers.
btw I work there0 -
actually a number of the adverts on the job center site require you top ring a premimum rate number for details of the vacancy so it can't always be avoidedYou can apply for JSA first appt on the internet. You can also browse their jobs on the internet.
You can also browse hundreds of other jobs through other sites on the internet. You dont need to call that number. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

ive never had a problem going to use the job searches in there, though they no longer let you use the phones, just give you a piece of paper with numbers of diff dept on it,and as for travelling 20 miles to sign on at your nearest office 2 years ago i was out of work and 13 miles from my nearest js..so every 2 weeks i signed by post..crazy as it seemsYesterday is History, Tomorrow is a Mystery, And Today is a Gift, That's Why it's Called The Present

Even so those numbers are not covered by inclusive BT packages. Only yesterday and today I had to call job seekers direct to get application info for jobs advertised as the advertiser could not be bothered to include that in the advert. Both calls took over 10 minutes so goodness only know how much that will cost me.the number on our vacancies is 0845 606 0234 which is national rate not premium.0 -
So-called "national rate" means that people who have enough money (normally because they are in work) can afford to call while those who are poor (like those who are out of work) may struggle. The 0845 we have is a national rate number. And all our 0800 are free from landlines and the main mobile phone providers ie orange, t-mobile etc and have been for nearly 3 years. The jobcentre dosen't have any premium rate numbers.

I am in work and have a landline. Bully for me. Most people on limited incomes have no landline, and since nearly all the clients (customers?) of the Jobcentres are out of work they are likely to fall into that category. From what I can tell by visiting their website, my current mobile company (Virgin Media) appears to charge a disgraceful 41p per minute to 0845 numbers. Some others are not quite so bad, with O2 advertising 21p per minute and Orange comparatively low at 12p per minute.
What people need is a genuinely free number which applies to all companies (they do exist), or at least a real local number to their local office. Sadly that sort of personal service seems to have died out.0 -
I googled "job centre Nottingham 0115" and found the geographical number for my Job Centre.0

It depends if you need to phone your local job centre or Belfast who deals with the claims. I suggest if you need to make an appointment at your local job centre then use either saynoto0870.com or Google to try and find your number. There are a lot of job centre on saynoto0870.com I couldn't find mine on there until I googled it.
If you need to ring Belfast about your claim - like why didn't you get paid the JSA, or if your job seekers is still being processed, then I would suggest try and use the phones at the job centre if there's not a big queue.
But I agree that it should be free or a geographical number. It's wrong to make the unemployed pay so much for a phone call.0
