My parents dog died a year and a half ago, and we still all miss him so much, it feels so strange going to visit and he isn't there
They become such a part of the family.
Celebrate I laughed about the story about your son going on the school trip and seeing a Tesco !
My 9 year old daughter came in from school the other day and I had some Tesco bags lying on my bed and she started looking through them all and said 'Are these all glitches Mum ?'life is like a loo roll. the nearer the end you get, the faster it goes.0 -
Frequent & tazmac25 - how terrible to have buried daughters
My nephew was killed by a train when taking a shortcut over a railway line 17 years ago. He was only 21 and my sister and brother-in-law have never been the same since
It is so hard to cope with a loss of a young life. I remember 9 years ago, when I took Bonnie and my then little boy Billy (not the one we have now) out for a walk and had locked the back door, but turning to find a stray English Bull Terrier and two Boxer pups coming round the couner of the house. Things get a little vague from this point but the bull terrier grabbed Billy by the neck and started to shake him. Billy was squealing, Bonnie was keeping out of the way best she could, as where the boxer pups and I was hitting the bull terrier on the head with the handle of the retractable lead and then with a plank of wood. The squealing stopped but he didn't let go. Instead he tried to make off with the now dead Billy so I hauled on the nylon cord of the lead, burning my hands, and he evetnually dropped Billy, who I picked up and, keeping Bonnie as close to me as possible, unlocked the door and got back inside. This is the most horrific thing I have ever gone through, and I remember saying many times that night and in the following days, 'If it's like this losing Billy, I can't imagine how it must have been, and still be, for my Sis and B-i-L, losing their only son, especially the way they did. My tears have started again. I have kept them in mostly today as Mr 3Dogs was so distraught, I felt I needed to stay strong for him
Such terrible stories, your poor nephew and poor BillyMy best friend at college lost his 23 year old brother in a car accident a couple of years ago, we haven't been close or even really in contact for several years so I still don't know how much it affected him and his family, but I was friends with them all not just him so I went to the funeral. I don't remember ever crying so much in my entire life, it was all perfect though, the funeral for tears and the wake for the stories and laughter. RIP Rupert

Sorry, had to take a few minutes to compose myself afer my last post. My family rescued the most wonderful loyal pet you could ever wish for. The kind you could turn inside out and they wouldn't complain. He was rescued from Dogs Trust having been abandoned when he was a pup. The rescue centre thought he was blind as the hair had totally matted over one of his eyes. He was painfully thin and his coat was a mess. He even had bald patches on his knees which we attributed to him praying for a kind loving owner. The day we went to Dogs Trust we were on I think our 3rd and final walk around the kennels when all of a sudden we all got splashed. Thinking this was just a coincidence we tried again and walked away and came back and yes, we got splashed again. That was the day Pips chose us. He won best rescue dog just a few months later at the annual kennel show. He really was mans best friend.
A few years later he started going downhill. I got the dreaded phonecall in work one day saying he'd taken a turn and it wasn't looking good. I composed myself as best I could and approached my boss to ask him for the following day off as the outcome was bleak. His reponse ........ "sure just get him put down today and you'll not need the time off". I may have responded out of turn but he backed down and gave me the morning off. Found out later my colleagues had given him a hard time for being a heartless (sorry not allowed to swear).
Pips was taken to the vet the following morning after we'd all had time to spend with him during the night. By some miracle the vet did something and he was given a reprieve. Upon hearing that he was on his way home, I rushed straight off to work, earlier than I needed to because of my boss' attitude. I got another phonecall later that day. He'd taken a bad turn and was rushed to the vet but there was nothing they could do. I'm crying typing this as I missed the last time Pips was able to run let alone walk and all because my boss was being a (not allowed to swear). I set the phone down, walked over to him and said "you'll be pleased to know he's just been put down".
I can't believe that 555 (much prefer 666!) can come on here and make the kind of post they did. There are some nasty trolls on here but that takes the biscuit
R.I.P Pip. Glad he spent his last few years in a loving caring home.0 -

I do and I don't, I miss her a lot for guidance because it would be nice to be able to have a parent around to have that person you can always rely on, but on the other hand I am used to her not being around now and find it hard to imagine my life with her in it. It would probably be different in a lot of ways for many various reasons.
It's been almost 10 years now, sometimes it feels like forever, sometimes it's like she was here yesterday. She was the single biggest influence in my life and I feel her in me/with me every day so she's never really gone xMorning guys - well I didn't go to bed until about 4 am and didn't get to sleep until about 5.30 and the alarm went off at 6.30 am  We have had our breakfast and just sitting having a cuppa before going out
It was very quiet in our house last night and this morning - it just goes to show us how much mindless yapping poor Bonnie did, all part of her condition we now know. Still, other 2 dogs are ok though Billy checked Bonnie's bed this morning
Back later, and thanks again everyone :A
