Well, the vet agreed that it was time for us to say goodbye to our little Bonnie, and we stayed with her till the end. She looked so peaceful, just asleep, and relaxed. To have put her through investigations, scans, possibly an operation, meds etc would have been cruel at her age. Still we have so many great memories of her over the 12 years she's been with us. We got her from Wood Green animal shelter on 9th July 2000, when she 'chose us' and they said this was her last chance of a new home as she'd been out twice before, but I can honestly say she is the best dog we have ever had in so many ways

They called her the 'ball dog' at Wood Green as she absolutely loved balls/toys of any kind, but especially football - she could dribble and head the ball with such skill, all the kids were astonished at her. And she loved swimming, even in icey water. When we stayed on the Ring of Kerry about 8 years ago, she had a daily swim in the river at Kenmare, and when we stayed near Tipperary a couple of years, she swam in the river at Cashel, climbing up onto a rock, diving in, swimming round, then out and back onto the rock to dive in again, and again - with a big smile on her face :D Such happy memories and 16 is a good old age

This pic is of her when she was at her healthiest, top weight of 7.5 Kgs. She was underweight at about 6.5 Kgs when we got her, and 6.6 last week

  • Got some steak tonight at long last. 2 packs organic rump and one pack sirloin. A rosting joint off the deli, a pack of bacon and some mushroom all for under a fiver. Happy with that, and it was nice and peaceful and well mannered too with people all swapping stuff and I even showed a new whoopsie hunter the ropes too...her and her husband were well chuffed so I reckon they will be seen again!

I was told the lady int he burkha was escorted outof the store again this week and the matter has passed to the store manager who is considering a store ban. A big thank you to the staff inthat store for listening to their customers and staff and acting on it....well done! :)

    If it should be....

If it should be that I grow frail and weak,
and pain should keep me from my sleep,
then you must do what must be done,
for we know this last battle can't be won.

You will be sad, I understand,
but don't let grief then stay your hand,
for this day, more than the rest,
your love and friendship must stand the test.

We've had so many happy years,
what is to come can hold no fears.
Would you want me to suffer? So,
when the time comes, please let me go.

Take me where my needs they'll tend,
only stay with me until the end,
and hold me firm and speak to me,
until my eyes no longer see.

It is a kindness that you do to me,
although my tail it's last has waved,
from pain and suffering I have been saved.

Do not grieve, it should be you,
who must decide this thing to do.
We've been so close, we two these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

For all of you going through the heart break of losing a beloved pet. xxxx

    what Zingzilla toys?

Zingzilla soft toy characters ... I managed to get Panzee, Zak, Tang ... they didn't have Drum. They were on a reduced section at an end of aisle but the yellow SEL was way out of date ... 2nd Jan I think.

Anyway even with the full police report the travel insurance does not cover any cash left in the hotel room, and only £500 of jewellery (not even the value of mums engagement ring)

So as well as the sentimental stuff lost, they are well out of pocket.

I also found out the opal necklace I got her for Christmas was taken. We saw it whilst on hol last year and didn't get it due to the price, then saw it again this year and I treated her to it. cos I didn't buy it in the UK I can't even get her another one.

:(:(:( So sorry Debs, I hope as others have said that their home insurance might be more generous in providing adequate financial cover for their losses :A
    thankyou Fudge Cake and Kadison,
great advice. Well I have bit the bullet and sat the kids down and spoke to them honestly which deffo was the best way to deal with it. They are such good sensible kids, both were upset, but completely understood. After reading your post Fudge Cake I knew I had to tell them, and also the burden of guilt would have drove me to the brink. I wear my heart on my sleeve and find honesty much easier. Also I didn't want to deny kids the right to say goodbye.
This behaviour hasn't been sudden it was been going on for at least 2 years the dog isn't well has heart and kidney failure, and has so much treatment that the isurance had to be canceled because it had went up to £80 a month. Life is weird, take turns roundabouts snakes and ladders but we are such a close family we will support each other. Thanks for reading this, its been a difficult day, i'm certain tommorow will be worse x

You're absolutely welcome blondynurse :) I think you definitely did the right thing and well done you for steeling yourself enough to do it. I'm sure that you'll all be able to help eachother through such a devastating blow to your family. Stay strong and I'm sure it's not required to say but try and appreciate what might be your last night together. And on that note....there was a very very disrespectful and downright nasty post earlier of which I haven't quoted because I do not wish to republish such a horrible remark when somebody is so clearly struggling and suffering. Blondynurse do not pay any attention to the insults made against yourself, as others have commented, we can all see how much you love it and want what's best for everyone, doggie included :Axx
