  • Evening all, I'm looking for some help from the slow cooker gang. I did my meatballs and sauce in mine today, but after 4 hours it was starting to burn round the edges, surely that shouldn't happen? :o

This is the one we got http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4201276.htm and I had it on low, but it was still bubbling away, the lid was even rattling at one point! It was half full (or half empty depending on how you look at it! :p ) I've never used one before, but that wasn't really what I was expecting, is this normal or have we bought a dodgy one? Any help greatly appreciated :)

Thats the slowcooker I have :D. It took me a while to get into it but the first couple of times I did tomato based sauces, I found them going a bit sticky round the edges (never got to the burnt point as Im home all day) Now I stick a bit of extra stock/water in, doesnt take much. It may be something to do with the natural sugars caramelising.Just had chicken thigh fillets with carrots, leek, onion, peppers cooked in chicken stock with some herbs and spices out of mine. Oh and I find the lid on mine will rattle if I take it off before its finished cooking, so I tend to just switch it on and leave it.
:heart2:Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.:heart2:

It was the same yesterday SA said they wouldn't be getting the cheap ones in for a while, just waiting on a big enough delivery. Someone bought all they had at store opening yesterday so will be at least a few days before they MAY get some in.
    HTH

Glad I didn't drive into the city yesterday. That would have been very annoying. I tend to go in late in the day and if there is still stock then I will take what I can as no-one else has obviously been lurking in that store.

To whoever it was discussing Saturday afternoons ...... I remember going up to my grandparents house when Great Gran was still alive. She'd make tea and pour some on a saucer for me and my brother to drink. We'd watch Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks (can't remember which was her favourite) and she always wore this checked apron with pockets on the front that she would keep her Foxes Glacier Mints & Fruits in.

Oh and back to the bread discussion, my Gran and my Mum make a mean dish consisting of minced beef & onions on a bed of white bread served with boiled potatoes (yuck) and lashings of HP sauce :D The bread mops up all the juices and though I'd never use bread to wipe a plate, it's nom nom nom with mince & onions.

  • Well, I've just spotted what I think should be a nice photo opportunity. Will have to go for a little walk as can;t get my car to it and its bloody freeeeezing here! If the pic comes out any good I'll post it up in a few mins. :)
  • In our house the remote is 'the remote control' and the tv is 'the television'. Does that mean we are weird? :o

All this talk of remotes reminds me of a story that makes me both cringe and crease up laughing even now.

Many years ago myself, my borther and a friend were sat watching the tele when the tele started getting intermittent interference which blanked out the picture and sent the tele as if it had no signal.

This went on intermittently for a couple of days, then my brother fires up this convo about extraterestrials etc and strange ways of communication, which got us all thinking about the odd behaviour of the tele! Eventually we 'sussed' that the interference on the screen wasnt just random and was in fact morse code!!

The person claimed to be able to see us and that we should talk back via morse code flashing of the living room light. These conversations went on for a couple of weeks with us eventually deducing that they were originating from one flat that overlooked us from a distance as we only got the messages when their light was on and we often saw someone near the window..

After about a month of being unable to keep a straight face any more my brother admitted to the hoax. He'd found an old alarm keyfob and was just playing with it in his pocket on the first night and noticed how it affected the tele and was doing rhythms with it when he suddenly had his brainwave to wind me up!

I was almost diappointed when i learned the truth, but I'm still grinning now relating the story to you guys. :D

I have another one of my random slow cooker dinners cooking , due to needing to use up some whoopsied veg!

Have got chopped carrots, chopped onion, chopped apples(yes really lol), browned pork and apple Edwards 38p sausages, veg stock and a fistful of herbs on top.

All whoopsied items, I had a bag of apples for 20p that looked lonely so I thought with the other things they would go, after all tomatoes are fruit and I always use those!

It does smell lovely I must say, won't be ready until about 8pm though so I've just forced down 11 mingles to keep me going...

I love getting whoopsied food I get to try some totally random food!:T
:) Learn from the past, enjoy and appreciate the present and work to make your future the best it can possibly be :)

    And get lots of glitches!
