I feel really chuffed with midwinters challenge. The grocery challenge thread is an inspiration. I set myself a challenge a while back for £100 month. That was for a family of 4 and a garden full of hens.
DtD made it too easy. It is a great way to actually tot up your spending. It's easy to lose track but think you are doing well. This way you see exactly what your outgoings are.

It makes you use up those items in the cupboard/pantry and freezer too that need using up. It also makes you google up recipes with certain ingredients you have found lurking on the back of shelves. The folk on the thread are fab as well and will readily come to your aid if you have a question.

    Well done midwinter :T

Agreed! I haven't joined the Grocery Challenge thread or set myself any targets but I often nip over there for a quick read and to see how people are getting along (being nosy :rotfl:) There's always so many handy tips...the other one, eating out of the freezer and cupboards? something like that, that's great too :)

    Question peeps,

I have become slightly addicted to mr kiplings mince pies so need a substitute.

Is anywhere selling mincemeat ridiculously cheap?

There must be loads out there unsold now it's January.

I want to try that suet pastry idea out but with a mincemeat filling then roll it up n bake. Bet it would by nice with a brandy custard.

JJ I bought 2 tubs, over 1kg each in Mr S last Monday for 10p each, they still had soem on the shelf but they were selling pretty fast. However in one of my stores, they were still marked up at full price in the baking aisle (10p on the end of the aisle) so you could still get lucky. I haven't opened it yet so I can't give you my opinion I'm afraid but for 10p....if all else fails, my chickens will eat it :T

Awwhh Rhosynbach please come off the naughty step (as should HC!)

I just thought you were being patriotic rather than anti English and I do think some people are easily offended. I think if everyone was a bit more "live and let live" then we'd all get along a lot better. Save the reporting for the really offensive stuff and it has more power

Well said anyakitten, couldn't agree more :T

Blimey. I've just google Portmeirion stuff. Dear or what! I don't know what mine is. It it has a Christmas rose on the bottom and has a cover to it.
    Not bad for FREE!!!!

Just tried to google it to see if it's worth a bob but nothing came up?!

This pattern is either "botanic garden" or "botanic garden variations" - the theme of both collections is that there is a different plant on each piece. I "think" that the BG Variations theme had the green leaf edging that your has but I could be wrong.

Check the base of the pieces though, it may say there.

    Hi all

I know this is a mrT thread but I thought some of you guys would be able to help.

I'm thinking about using the MrA's promise as I'm wanting some bits and bobs and when I put into Mysupermarket it comes out favourable:

    MrA 29.23
    MrT 22.60
    Sains 19.26

If an item is marked as replacement on mysupermarket then would this not compare?

I do have more items to add once I check the fridge/freezer.

I haven't done this at MrA before and would like to see a comparison email to work out whats what in case I end up throwing money away, as Sains is as far as MrA to drive so not sure what to do for best.

    Any help appreciated.

    Helen

Amazing what offends some isn't it?

I think its the designs name rather than where its made :)

The pottery is in Stoke On Trent. The creator of the pottery was Susan Williams Ellis, the daughter of Sir Clough Wiliam-Ellis who designed the village of Portmeirion:)

Edit. Sorry. Just caught up and realised someone had already posted

I looked underneath. Just says Portmeirion stoke on trent. No numbers or design class to be seen anywhere. Not even in cover. It's immaculate condition but could that mean its a second?

You looney! Why didn't you just remove the stickers?
because its tampering with prices, it would be the same as removing the restickered 1p items in tesco.:p

 i had a message this morning telling me a post i put on last night about being disapointed that portmerion pottery was made in England could come across as offencive, and anti english so if i offended anyone i am very sorry it was not against english just that you expect somthing to be made where it is named after not hundreds of miles away.
i shall sit on the naughty step ( not to bad am sitting with HC, )
offensive you should have got a medal for finding something made in england
