I'm no expert but I think seconds usually have some sort of markon the base to indicate that. May even just be a little squigle. Depends on the pottery I think?
Our 60s/70s black/gold coffee set has an oval gold backstamp with:
Portmeirion Pottery
Designed By Susan Williams-Ellis
Stoke On Trent
Made In England
The bottom stamp is a wee bit basic::A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Printed off my Persil vouchers and went off to get my free washing up liquid.
Tried 3 Extras and none of them had any. Must admit I didn't even know Persil did washing up liquid so perhaps it is not available in my area.If you're not scared, you're not paying attention0 -
Aww. Just found the stamp on the net:
This green backstamp is used in two situations.
1. On all items in the Botanic Garden and Pomona ranges that were not of "First Quality", i.e. a "Second". These can often now be bought at the factory shops, but they are never described as being of "First" quality and are sold at a reduced price.
2. On items made that used a "retired" design. This enabled retired transfers to be used on new items, not always the original shape. i.e. An 8 inch plate transfer used on something else. This may, of course, be quite desirable, but it is not an original item.
If, say, an old 10 inch plate transfer is used on a new 10 inch plate, it will have this green oval backstamp and it is effectively a reproduction.
These remarks do not apply to the oval backstamps in other colours.
The set is exceptionally rare in the sense that I cannot find it on the net anywhere which raised hopes but the green back stamp has dashed em somewhat!:A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

Which Persil coupons are these please? The only ones I have are the ones for Persil non bio but they don't do that in washing up liquid. Thanks.0 -

That's the same format as ours but it is missing the "Designed By Susan William Ellis" line. Not sure what significance this has in terms of age?Awaiting a new sig0 -

The whole going out in pj thing I'd never seen until I moved to a different area (3 miles away). The children and I went in MrM's for breakfast and a lady was in there in pj's, dressing gown, slippers and rollers eating breakfast:eek::eek:
When I mentioned it to someone they told me to look at the local school run I thought she meant in the morning, but she didn't they are in pj's at 3 O'clock picking up.
The mum and son (mother in 50's son late 20's) across the road stand smoking on their front doorstep at any time wearing just dressing gowns. Quite off putting when there's a sudden gust of wind:rotfl:
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I have been shop in my pyjames but put trousers over top of bottoms and coat on. Have kept slippers on tho.0
