Miss laid. My nose is being tantalised by the imaginary smells of those welsh cakes baking! Never made em in my life but they look really homely n satisfying. Do you put lashings of butter on em whilst still warm. I can just imagine savouring one with a brew. Mmmm.

I am doing NOWT today. Went out this morning after breakfast but as I have an assortment of curry dishes to use up from yesterday, a smidging of boozy baileys cake and a board of cheeses in the fridge to use up, I am not cooking a thing today!!!

I am sat here going through my tatty farmhouse kitchen cookbook looking for more suet recipes (I LOVE new ingredients!) and found a cracker.
Suet pastry is as quick as normal pastry (2 parts flour, 1 part fat and water to bind) but in the book it recommends using this for baked savoury rolls.
As you know, we regularly have 'leftover pie' (basically a pie made with any substantial leftovers) but here they recommend doing similar with a suet pastry. Roll it out into a rectangular shape, spread your leftovers (or bacon n mushroom, cheese n onion, etc) on the pastry, moisten edges then roll up like a Swiss roll. Then bake in oven.

Easy n how cheap is that!!!!

I love it. That will certainly make an appearance in our table in the near future!!! :T

I eat them "naked" (without butter not without clothes) on day 1, if by some miracle there is any left for day 2 then butter gets added - some people add butter and jam

Never been to Anrim store before, It was on the way to Asda so I thought to have a nosey. There were more there. Can't remember what the SEL was but deffo not £1. I think there were some more Hello Kitty art sets there and some 6p rolling pins.

Hi Happy ... no the SEL has never been £1 for the duvets and there are 2 designs ... it's the old design that scans at £1 (b/c 2930) the new design has lots of white lines on and is of course full price.

BTW ... does the Price Checker give results on Sundays?

 i had a message this morning telling me a post i put on last night about being disapointed that portmerion pottery was made in England could come across as offencive, and anti english so if i offended anyone i am very sorry it was not against english just that you expect somthing to be made where it is named after not hundreds of miles away.

    Ideas please!:)

I have loads of used, glass holders, that had Glade or Airwick candles in.
Other than throwing them away, (a shame as some of them are really pretty and that's not very MSE), has any one got any ideas what other use they could be put to?

    Any tips, greatly appreciated.:D

Of course they could always be tea light holders inside paper bags?? Hold on a minute I'm looking for a link ;)

Well done. I'll be the first to ask :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Shopping list and meal menu please!

I feel really chuffed with midwinters challenge. The grocery challenge thread is an inspiration. I set myself a challenge a while back for £100 month. That was for a family of 4 and a garden full of hens.
DtD made it too easy. It is a great way to actually tot up your spending. It's easy to lose track but think you are doing well. This way you see exactly what your outgoings are.

It makes you use up those items in the cupboard/pantry and freezer too that need using up. It also makes you google up recipes with certain ingredients you have found lurking on the back of shelves. The folk on the thread are fab as well and will readily come to your aid if you have a question.

    Well done midwinter :T

Huh? I would have thought they were made there too. No offence was taken here at all.
Isn't Portmeirion where prisoner was filmed (is that what it was called? The film with the white blob, I am not a number film?)

Ok the duvets - are they the same packaging or do they differ? The ones I've seen all have NEW on them. I did check some barcodes but I'm worried now that the old & new ones are the same packaging just different duvets & barcodes and I've missed out on this.

I think PriceChecker does come back on a Sunday but I haven't had mine yet.

    Question peeps,

I have become slightly addicted to mr kiplings mince pies so need a substitute.

Is anywhere selling mincemeat ridiculously cheap?

There must be loads out there unsold now it's January.

I want to try that suet pastry idea out but with a mincemeat filling then roll it up n bake. Bet it would by nice with a brandy custard.
