I have become slightly addicted to mr kiplings mince pies so need a substitute.
Is anywhere selling mincemeat ridiculously cheap?
There must be loads out there unsold now it's January.
I want to try that suet pastry idea out but with a mincemeat filling then roll it up n bake. Bet it would by nice with a brandy custard.
Hi Jumblejack I did see some mincemeat on offer in Mr S last week. I have not been there since but it might worth trying. good luckMortgage debt 45,000. Thank you all for your help so far in helping me save to buy the house. I could not have done this without all your help.0 -

Tesco expresses were selling tesco own brand jars at 30p before Christmas (SEL said 30p too, although the online price and extra price was always over £1, not sure if they still are though, as I have a fair few so haven't needed to look for a while.
Its quite nice, comparable in taste to anything else ive used. Dont try Morrisons as for some strange reason they increased the price of their mincemeat after last (2010) Christmas! (As they did with the value chocolate spread before discontinuing it!)...strange policy that, almost a 'last chance to buy so charge a bit more' kind of idea:cool:0 -

I find dried fruit is sooooo expensive now. Even the value stuff. Would live to try it though.
Thanks for the boot up the bum!

That's sounds like pretty good going to me:T:T:TIf I can get away with it I peel the reduced sticker off before I freeze it, think that might make me a "whoopsie snob":eek::e
I also take the stickers off.But i dont have any problem with who sees me buying reduced food and i feel good when i tell people what a bargain i got i just think the stickers look ugly 0r maybe i am a sticker snob also.0 -

i did print off the welsh cakes recipie yesterday but didnt get round to making them i have made a cherry pie for afters today to make space in the cupboard.
i love you cake stands where ever they are made
Posted it stage by stage otherwise I'd forget how I did it!
The boozy baileys fudgy frosting (I apologise again for the quirky name!) is enought to do the top AND sides of the cake if you choose. I pile mine on top and encourage it to dribble down the sides instead.
I go for rustic not decorative if my guests are close friends or family.
First time guests get more effort though!
You could get away with halving the quantities for that though if you wanted. Ie, 6 oz icing sugar, 2 spoons of baileys, etc (any Irish cream will do. Cheaper the better if course!):A Every moment is a gift. That's why we call it the present.!:A

I tried it once, think it was a Delia recipe. I found it wasnt worth it for the time it took and the mess it made. Didnt taste 'quite right' either:(0 -
