Well it is now officially 13th January 2012 and the 12 months' moratorium period on my DRO (Debt Relief Order) has now finished and my debts are now written off. I know that my debts weren't as great as some people on the debt forum but, with no way of paying them back, they were crippling me and dragging me down, so I am so relieved to have got to this point
For those that don't know, A Debt Relief Order is like a mini Bankruptcy, but only applies if you have no assets, other than a car worth least than £1000, have debts below £15,000 and have £50 or less left after paying for normal household expenses, so it isn't for everyone. Mr 3Dogs and I had £14,000 of debts between us but they were crippling us, and the constant phone calls and letters where dragging us into depression. I hadn't worked since Dec 1989 due to arthritis and Mr 3Dogs hasn't worked since he had a cancer op in December 2008, so we were very short of cash and just couldn't pay what they wanted to clear these debts. Thanks to MSE and CCCS, I found out about DRO's and eventually applied and mine was granted 13th January 2011. You wait a year, and then your debts are written off unless the order is revoked for any reason during that 12 months. We had to wait to do a DRO for Mr 3Dogs because of the rules about private pension funds but that changed in April and I finally got round to sorting out his paperwork and going through CCCS for a DRO for him late last year. I paid his £90 fee two days ago, so just waiting for a phone call to go through his details and the DRO will be submitted, so this time next year, hopefully, we will be in a much better place
All I can say is:
Onwards and upwards:Tcongratulations:beer:We are many we are one xxx
So that every single post that I contribute to this thread is on topic I would just like to say I am an elite 11+ member and I hear the unjust silence of my opinions whilst I am shopping in supermarkets mainly. Just sayin.0 -
to be fair i do tell him what things cost and he has an idea of what we receive each week, my son only gets what most of the other kids around here get, he works hard in school and is currently studying for his gcse's, i wouldnt want him working at the age of 15 neither just simply because i want him to study and still have a life with his mates while he can.. when he was younger he was bullied a lot due to being over weight he has now slimmed down and has a whole new group of friends which he never had before so it is important to me to keep him in the clothes that he wears now kids nowadays can be very hurtfull the last thing i want is for him to bullied yet again because he doesnt have the same gear as others.... what i was tryin to say is he may not want anything to do with his father but that extra money i have been receiving will be usefull in one or another whether it be to top up his blackberry or use towards lunch money whilst at school and college, he is just determined that we dont want/need it because it comes from him iyswim
Mandy regarding the blackberry my kids and oh use them but all have contracts and know the limits but DDs 1&2 use BBM and it costs nothing for all blackberry users hth0 -
