The thing is that most people think you only get a blue badge for a visible disability, I only learnt this isn't the case quite recently, I've a friend who has Crohns and only learnt last year that she'd been given a blue badge as it's classed as a disability.

I still think that at least 25% of people in disabled spaces are using them fraudulently though, a lot of people couldn't care less. I get annoyed with the parent and child spaces too but not to the same extent as they are courtesy spaces rather than a necessity.

I've got an invisible disability, unless I'm actually having an "attack" . When that happens I can't stand, walk, or do anything other than throw up!...and people then think I'm drunk
I see people look at me when I use my blue badge and have heard them mutter that "there's nothing wrong with her!". I have had to explain that I can only ever go anywhere when I'm having a good day. And even then, I've been known to fall over in the street and stagger back to my car. Nobody outside my family ever see's me when I'm really bad as I physically can't do anything other than lie down. But otherwise I look normal, don't limp, have got my hair etc.etc so it's very difficult to try to get people to realise that what I do have is classed as a chronic illness....and there is no cure.
It's so hard to get a blue badge now, my GP had to jump through hoops to get me one. I wasn't going anywhere because my balance is so poor and I get so dizzy when walking around. She was concerned I was becoming too reclusive and would end up becoming depressed as a result. I live in a rural village, where buses are infrequent so really do need to drive to get anywhere, and also need to be able to reach my car easily if I do take a turn for the worse while out.
Walking around T's is actually very good for me....!! I have to use a trolley, but dealing with the lighting, high shelves, noise and crowds is almost like physio!! It teaches my brain to compensate for the loss of balance due to the damage to my inner ears.
I agree that there is an enormous amount of misuse of blue badges. A lot of people don't realise that you shouldn't use other people's badges unless they are actually travelling in the vehicle with you. It's no good you saying you were just collecting granny's prescription....granny would need to be with you!!
But there are also an awful lot of invisible disabilities.....and just because someone doesn't look ill...it doesn't automatically follow that they aren't.

    There endeth today's sermon :rotfl::rotfl:
My husband says he will leave me if I don't stop shopping......... God I will miss that man.

The best thing I found about Woolies when I was little was they paid me money :D
I was only about 6 or 7 but very interested in the poster flick stand. Was looking through it one Saturday in the big one in Belfast city centre when I blacked out........

Ahhhhh Woolies. Those were the days :( I used to love the pick 'n' mix. Do you remember Leisure World as well?

Had a really fab day today.

Clintons - loads of 75% off cards, Xmas deccies and some 50% off Cars & Toy Story stuff for the boys

    Boots 1 - 3 shots, 3 vitamins, olbas inhaler, total 92p

Tesco - nothing exciting for me but my folks did manage another ss10 dvd player. Shhhhh it's for my bros birthday :D

Boots 2 - drove to the next town and there, sitting untouched on the shelf must have been 40+ shots. Took 18 shots, 18 different vitamins, 8 packs of wipes and the bill was £6. The girl said she'd never seen such a long receipt so I've just measured it. 33" in total, 24.5" excluding the survey bit at the top. £6 to pay, £67 saved plus double parenting club points :D

So all in all, 21 shots, 21 vitamins, 1 olbas inhaler, 8 packs of wipes. Paid £7 cash, got 219 points. Result :T

For us if we take DS to tesco or such places they are a necessity, he is 7 and I have mentioned before he has aspergers, well if he has a meltdown we need to be able to open the door fully to get him into the car, plus they are normally closer to the store so means less distance to walk to the store so less chance of him dashing off though not always.

We were refused a blue badge for him as according to them he didn't need it due to the fact 90% of the time he will/can walk though they didn't care when I explained about meltdowns, or the fact he has hyper-mobility and hurts in cold weather.
I try not to make too many exceptions for him just because he has aspergers but there are certain things like this that can help make life safer and easier!

If we only have DD with us (2) next month it isn't a huge problem if there are no parent spaces, yeah it is a pain getting her in/out, especially with my bad back or when some @rse parks badly but I feel like in that situation it is a nice thing to have the space rather than necessity if that makes any sense?

It's one of my pet hates....people using disabled or parent and toddler bays for no other reason than bone idleness epecially those that use a BB fraudulently

That's how I do mine....with cheese and parsley.
Did you get the massive bag of suet from Big Bargain Brands (or something like that)?
I've been thinking about ordering some stuff

A mate of mine got several kilos from goodness knows where and bagged some up for me as a pressie. She knows me well. I prefer practical things.

Thank you that's good to know as was wondering how I would get round it as had dtd also. Had mine yesterday and did have a bit of a smell when opened but I do find that with most of the meats that are packed like that but it tasted fine & had the left overs in a curry today & fine too but still have 6 in the freezer so good to know I can take them back if there's a problem with them
Sorry for any typos on my Phone and can't see a thing

Definately not the 'wait for 10 mins' after opening smell! Sad, I know, but I actually took a pair of plastic gloves (am a PG person and use them every time that I touch raw meat/fish) with me for the cs to use! By the way, she was extremely grateful for them!

JJ, how do you mix this? by hand or whisk and what sort of consistency are you after please?

    Wooden spoon!

Cream sugar n butter, add egg, mix in flour. Dead easy. I was sooo lazy with this that the 'no2' cake went in the mw in the glass bowl it was mixed in if it was just for the family. Warm custard hides a multitude of sins :D
It was prepped and in bowls within 5 mins. Seriously.
You don't need to spend money on frozen puds. Quicker and cheaper to knock one up with a mw!

I parked in a disabled bay and when I was getting into my car, 2 idiot blokes that were parked opposite me (in a parent and child bay nonetheless) shouted out 'You're not disabled' and burst out laughing. I'd just come away from my consultant telling me that there's something going really wrong with my blood, that I have to make a life threatening decision about whether or not to take a particular tablet and was in a lot of pain. If I was feeling more ballsy I would have said something but instead I just burst out crying. I wish people would think before they speak, not everyone who's disabled is a 90 year old pensioner in a wheelchair.

Well said FC, and I'm sorry you were upset. The whole disabled parking system is a fiasco.

When my friend broke her leg really badly and had to have it seriously pinned, her husband took her and her wheelchair to Mr T and parked in the disabled spots near the door. She was clearly in a really bad way, but some old woman who could walk v well had a right go at her because she didn't have a blue badge. I from time to time am in the words of my doctor " really quite severely disabled", and can be in agony walking on occasions, but because my problems are intermittent I cannot get a blue badge (most of the time I wouldn't want one) . Because of the idiot Prescott and the changes he made when he wasn't otherwise engaged, most car parks around us have many more disabled spots than are ever needed. So they all stand empty near the shops when many people who have a degree of infirmity, or have intermittent serious problems, haven't a hope in Hades of using them legitimately. It's mad.

For a start there should be scope for people to have a blue badge for, say, three months when they need one eg due to injury or serious intermittent problems. . And there should be a massive clamp down on people who abuse the current system (and there are many). Maybe then the general public would have more faith that those who have them actually need them.
    Hope is not a strategy.

Thanks for that, was told by customer services last night that I would need a receipt.
I thought I was ringing the store but apparently not.
Try again, or a different store ;)
