What to do with celeriac?

Options
I've bought a small celeriac to try from Tesco. Was thinking of mashing it up with potatoes tonight, only thing is I'm not sure what to do with it! Is it just like a potato, do I need to peel it? or just chop it up as is? It's an ugly looking vegetable that's for sure!

Cheers for any help :o

Cut it up into cubes, boil it and mash it with a bit of butter and seasoning- yum!! You can have it on it's own or with other root veg in a mixed mash....

I can't promise that all my replies will illicit this response :p
  • The new Asda near me started stocking Celeriac - seems folk round here don't like anything new cos they are always reduced to 30 or 40p at the end of the day :j The one I bought tonight is in the SC with some carrot, onion, HM stock and a couple of bay leaves from my garden;) all surrounding the turkey joint reduced from £5.68 to £2.39:T
So - 2 - 3 portions of soup, and a good few meals with th turkey - curries, sandwiches etc. Bargainous!

I usually mash celeriac with potatoes and swede for a really tasty and healthy alternative to mash with anything - fab on HM Shepherds Pie/Fish Pie!

next stop - coleslaw as recommended above - cheers saxy1:beer:

You can buy celeriac salad in French supermarkets. It's just celeriac in a mayonaise. I think the celeriac is usually blanched first though. It's really nice.
