Based on this written by Martin, it's Boots only and as he has spoken to Clinique and has made no mention of an appointment I doubt you need one.
Totally free Clinique mini mascara (worth £8ish)
In-store, from Sat 14 Jan 2012
Discount: Free mini mascara Who for: Anyone Get by: Wed 1 Feb 2012 or while stocks last Use by: N/A How: From Sat 14 Jan 2012, take any full-size old mascara (even if it's empty) to a Boots Clinique counter and you'll be given a mini Clinique mascara in exchange. There's a choice of two mascara samples: High Lengths (5ml) and High Impact (4ml). They're about half the size of the normal ones (7 and 8ml).
The detail: It's while stocks last. Clinique hasn't been able to confirm specific stock levels but has said it's ordered more stock than the last time this offer was on. Saying that, this offer's been mega popular in the past so it's worth calling ahead to check stock at your local store.
MSE Penny says: Based on the full-size versions, we estimate the High Lengths mascara to be worth £11.42 and the High Impact £8, so this is a great deal. See what forumites think of the deal in the Clinique mascara exchange discussion.AKA: PC

Could we not argue about this? There will always be some people who want more from a promotion than others but this is kinda getting off topic. And nasty.
So - not sure if this has been answered - but do you HAVE to buy one of the products they'll try to sell you? I wouldn't be adverse to getting a new foundation, but does it have to be something they suggest to you, or can it be anything? If you are obliged to buy anything at all?
New to the idea of getting something for nothing and liking itI need a new foundation, and if I get to try a new mascara for free its even better!

Or you could stop moaning, avoid the "harassment" and stay home! or better still, buy it full price. you have got absolutely no right to dictate to people the amount of freebies they can get. Move along now, this is getting stale.
pmsl I will stay home thanks as i'm not that desperate for free samples , so there's a couple more for you to snap uplol

The people with more than one old mascara to swap - are you going to make 5, 6, 7 or more appointments to get them?0

my boots also said i would need an appointment AND that they will only be exchanging one mascara per appointment. HTHI can only please one person a day.... Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either!!very greatful for almost everything i read on MSE (except for the nasties!)0

I'm the boss of me and if i decide i want to exchange 5 or 6 mascaras, its my decision. clinique has a choice to refuse to exchange them. thats why companies have a little thing called "terms and conditions". And i could care less if you or any one else is new or not. But when you waltz in and start calling people you dont even know greedy, you can expect some objection.
Welcome to MSE or maybe goodbye as the case may be
WHAT A !!!! SOME FOLK ARE JUST NASTY0 -
Hi all,
We've double-checked with Clinique and you do not need to book an appointment to get the freebie.
Thanks,
MSE Penny0
