No sound on my PC

Well then its no different to if you had plugged something in via the HDMI socket. It works and you have sound which is good. But you still seemingly have a green 'audio out' socket that doesnt work. Personally, I wouldnt be happy until I had it working as its by far the most common way of connecting speakers.
Its a bit like buying a new tv and one of the scart sockets doesnt work so you connect using s-video instead. Yes it works, but the scart socket is still dead:idea:0 -
I understand you alienrik. I'm a bit annoyed with the seller, he never explained that only a usb connection would work, I don't think that's normal. Plus, the good speakers that we have use the green jack, we only bought vrappy cheap ones to test the USB connection. I will be emailing him tomorrow, but I don't think I'll get much joy as it was bought on ebay! Although, I will deffo be doing some damage to his 100% success rate!2013 NSD challenge 3/100

Your call. I think if I was you id be sending it back and getting him to sort the problem (or if he cant, refund you the money).
Its also a tad dodgy because it has Vista Business on when the computer originally would have had XP on. So dont be surprised if further down the line it gets blacklisted of microsoft updates
I know your son would be without a computer for a while but at least youll be able to get one that fully works
Best of luck whatever you decide:idea:0 -
Thanks, AR. If it gets blacklisted I will be taking a drive down to the dealer! I bought this one because DS likes gaming, and it was quite a high spec for that, not something I could afford to pay for from new. I never usually buy stuff from Ebay, and when I bought this one I was really careful, the dealer has had loads of sales and has a 100% rating. But, I will be telling him I'm not happy with it and see what happens.2013 NSD challenge 3/100

Hi A_M
Been doing a bit more digging. I was wrong earlier, it looks like your PC does have an internal speaker for playing Windows sounds but it may have been disabled in the bios.Audio
The dc7800 implements the UAA (Universal Audio Architecture) with an ADI 1884 High Definition audio CODEC. The ADI drivers include a control panel for controlling features of the audio subsystem. ADI's control panel is accessible from the Windows control panel or optionally through a system tray icon. The ADI audio drivers are available from the HP support web site for the dc7800. HP's BIOS settings allow for disabling the internal speaker for users operating in a quiet environment such as libraries.
Although that doesn't help in terms of sorting out the green audio jack. From what I can gather the ADI 1884 control panel software can be provided by either Realtek, IDT or Soundmax.
Can you do a search on your computer for each of the following;
Soundmax
Realtek
IDT
You may find the appropriate audio control panel that will provide more info on your sound configuration.
There's also an Intel audio troubleshooter, with a wizard, that you could work your way through http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-020642.htm
