No sound on my PC

I have checked everywhere I can think of, and the sound isn't muted anywhere.
Toxteth o'grady, I did as you suggested and there is one sound tab, it says 'no problems found'.
I think I'll just send it back and ask him to fix it.
I can't remember in Vista, is there a Test Direct Sound button on the Sound Tab? Also on the sound tab what audio device does it say you have?
This should be a simple fix - famous last words :eek:604!0 -
Dont shoot me for asking, but are the speakers working ok. Do you have anything else to try them in. Reason i ask is, had someone come to me the other day saying there speaker doesnt work very well, turned out the speaker was a centre speaker from a surround sound system.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0

I personally suspect the sound has never worked like what they claim
Uninstall the audio driver you have then:
Install this:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp38001-38500/sp38488.exe
then the audio driver:

Certainly worth a try but I don't think it's a driver problem as that would definitely show up in Dxdiag.604!0 -

My theory comes from a few experiences ive had of late when installing windows 7
Even though everything seems ok the sound never worked on several of them
I had to download dedicated motherboard drivers first then the audio drivers to get them working
Further to that, on some others that DID work, they wernt in HD sound until I did the same
Cant guarantee a result here with it being the incorrect operating system but as you said, worth a try:idea:0 -
Personally I would check the following if it were me...
The speakers work
Volume is up on PC and speakers
Speakers are plugged into correct socket
Check the computer sound options (playback devices) to make sure the right device is selected. This is especially important if you have multiple outputs like SPDIF/Optical and/or multiple sound cards
If you have a 7.1/5.1 sound card, you have to make sure the right socket is used if you are only using stereo speakers etc...0 -

I'm hoping the OP will run a Direct Sound test in dxdiag. That would then eliminate driver/souncard error. I would then check out default sound device settings and volumes/mutes. After that I would look at connections, cables, speakers etc although it doesn't have to be done in that order.604!0 -
Hi Toxteth. Unfortunately, there is no direct sound test in dxdiag. The device is called 'Digital output device (HDMI) High Def.
Regarding plugging the speakers into the correct jack, I not even using speakers yet, I'm trying to get the internal speakers to work, then I know the external speakers will work. I did actually test the external speakers on a different PC, and they work fine. There are only two jacks in the back of the PC, one blue and one green. I was using the green one, but tried the blue one for badness. Neither worked.
Alienrik - I have emailed your downloads and my son is doing all the installing as we speak. I'll let you know what happens!
Copier Guy - I had a look at the playback device, but there is nothing showing that is disabled or disconnected.2013 NSD challenge 3/100 -
OK your sound output is carried over HDMI from either your onboard soundcard or a high end graphics card. Typically this would need an HDMI cable to connect from your PC to an HDMI monitor with built in speakers or a TV (or possibly an AV amp). Do you have any of these?
If not next step will be to look in Windows Sounds, Device Manager and/or download Belarc Advisor, PC Wizard or something similar to see what other sound devices you have. My guess is you have plugged green/black of your speakers into the motherboard rear panel for the onboard sound but that has been disabled in Windows or the bios.
Back in a mo with more advice for you.
