Reckon you can start him at 3! ;)

Keep plodding MFM...I agree food is important so £3.33 sounds good to me. I will be using a lot of store cupboard and freezer items so my £2.50 is not as strict as it sounds, plus I have a teenager who exercises a lot and loves meat..so veggie and fish options can be tricky.

Great meal and company with friends. Result.

  • Glad you had a fab holiday Brizzle - sounds wonderful. Plus your Jan plans look spot on. Taking a leaf out of your book on spend per day to look at food. Wishing you and yours happy 2017. PF

I am thinking of dropping our £70 a week everything budget to £60 - we are 3 adults and 2 cats. Going to be tight but I am going to have a go. We are also going back to low carbing - felt fitter and healthier when we did this before and didnt miss anything. However cupboards are carb heavy at the moment but we have agreed we are not wasting stuff so I will work through the cupboards and 2 freezers for next few weeks and that will keep us down to £60 I reckon. Cat food is stocked up as I bought in bulk with some offers and of course they are low carb already :D

Good to hear from you Ig - good hols? Probably back to the grindstone now?

Had a good day yesterday. Now I did spend money (and made one schoolgirl error) but here goes:

    1. Got up at 6:45! ;) and started making cakes. Apple cake was not good - I should have bought strong flour as I used a combination of rye/00/plain and um.. not great. Banana cake looks lush though. Got through my 10th load of washing from the hols and tidied house. Booked cheap tickets to movies (Moana :)) and took snacks and coffee.. BUT.. forgot to take lunch.. so had to give in and buy some. £6.60 for 3 of us in Greggs, girls persuaded me to go as its cheaper than Pret etc. They were right! So could have been worse. We also took bus. Less frugal.

    2. Went to Poundland - again my kids frugal suggestion. Good prices on d/w tablets and some toiletries. All legitimate spends.

    3. Dinners done for this evening and roast chicken leftovers made into stock, soup and kept for a pie tomorrow respectively. So that's good. Also an AFD.

Today has also been good - no unexpected spends and OH sold a stock photo - happens every so often - nice to get.

    Will update more later

Bulk cooked cottage pies for this evening and for freezer - result. Just need to do my exercises for my Frugalwoods Challenge (trying to think about short medium and longer term goals, and didn't want to rush it ;)) later on. Have a day off tomorrow to do some domestic stuff which should be handy. Have to say my early start and 3 hour commute will not be missed tomorrow! Will also try and collect a parcel and start photographing the items I'd like to sell...
    Have a good eve folks

Good work Brizzle! I think a key thing to staying out of debt is changing that mind-set of 'oh well forgot lunch so I have failed' and then spending a lot of money... when realising you would have to spend you went for cheapie option which is fab!
I wish I had a bigger freezer to batch cook... mind you OH hates left overs and apparently won't eat the same meal two days in a row... fussy men!

Aha! I have a solution to that! You do the same meal twice in 3 days.. or similar. Eg. Rest of lasagne from Day 1 on Day 3 and in my case this eve, roast chicken on Day 1 and chicken pie today (Day 3).

Certainly helps me. We got our second freezer from Freecycle. Keep a look out maybe? Actually I tell a lie realise this one was from a friend, but free none the less.

Have a great day and thanks for popping by

So simple when someone else says it!! Will plan it like that from now on and see how we get on ... !

Don't think we have space for second freezer... might measure cupboard under the stairs and see if one would fit.. would be very handy! Need to start keeping an eye on freecycle more

Best of luck!! See if anyone notices ;)

The freezer is a godsend - like today I picked up reduced ie. Yesterday's bagels from our local baker - girls love them and easy for lunches. We cast off a TD (and now use racks, the washing line and a heated rack (thanks for recommendation Alice) and it's a much better and more frugal fit for us. See what you can do.

Started on my domestic chores. Bank still closed tho!
