I can't get it to do anything at all except not shut down! The screen remains black, I've tried holding down the on/off button just to shut it, but nothing happens.

If I just left it, would the battery just run down or is it likely that it's developed a fault and will overheat or something?
You've probably guessed how little I know!

on this one it's in the slot on the left, you can see the sliding catch for it above the slotEx forum ambassador

Hi browntoa
I've taken out the battery and plugged in - it's booting up now fine.
Funny, the warmest bit wasn't the battery!
Thanks for all your help - battery was in different place but I looked for the sliding catch. Second pic has loaded now, and is more like mine.
What do I do now, can I replace the battery?

Hi again.
My laptop now is causing problems.
This laptop is 3 yrs old and have coverplan, problem is that I can use it only for 1-2 weeks and then it does not wants to load Windows. I've told by coverplan (techguys now) that I needed to do a system recovery. I've done it many times and lost data. Something most be wrong, but Coverplan said it's a software issue. I do not know, because only thing I have updated is Windows XP (trhough Microsoft web page) and Coverplan claims that most be the problem,
They have taken the laptop last time and change the HDD, returned it with software installed by them, and 1 week later after installing some updates it won't boot, only on safe mode, but nothing more.
Is it a hardware problem, or really a software issue here? I have added to the laptop only Adaware, avg and Zone alarm, and the MS update. but these I have in my PC and no prob at all, What should I said to coverplan?
Will it be that previously I sent to Coverplan for repair because I accidentally drop Coca Cola on it and something is damaged?
