If you have any other switches on the front of your PC eg RESET, you could swap the leads over on the mainboard, and use that button to turn on your PC.
Some keyboards have a power on button
Also some BIOS allow you to define a key (or password) on the keyboard to turn on the machine.
In the meantime, a flathead screwdriver touching the two pins on the mainboard that are for the power switch will get your machine started. (if that is infact the problem).0 -

Hi
OK, hope someone can help. Just got a second hand laptop (Bought it from known reliable source) for my old mum who's decide to become a cyber grannie - HP - quite old but been working fine, (The machine, not mum!) tried at home, everything fine but she wanted a mouse so shut it down. Went out to buy a mouse and she switched machine on, didn't really know what she was doing and shut it down.
Just turned it on, battery low so plugged in. Now screen is black, light on, fan keeps starting up but cannot switch on or off. Unplugged and brought it home, still doing same.
It's sitting there unplugged, light still on. Would have thought it would just shut down with little or no battery.
Can anyone help please?0 -
did it have xp on it or win98 ??
if xp you may be able to use system restore to go back from safe mode
if 98, see if you can get into safe mode by hitting F8 key on boot upEx forum ambassador
