do you have any advice on these IT training companies that offer 1yr courses to achieve the mcse certification? they promise work placement on completion.

I obviously have my reservations about how much value employers would place on a qualification that takes 1yr of part time study to complete.

do you know if the mcse cert is really worth having??

The MCSE cert is worth having, but only if you have the experience to back them up. It's too easy these days just to learn the material required for the exam without having any knowledge of real world systems. We call these people "paper MCSE's", i.e they have the certificate, but in reality know jack.
I would say that the Cisco CCNA/E courses would be better in terms of finding employment afterwards.

Stay away they are overoriced and the training is awful especially from computeach and ICS london now ICS.

You will go for an interveiw where they will tell you that they are looking for that special someone who can fulfill any obligations laid out, the interview will go okay and they will say they are impressed with you but will let you know.

1 week passes and you get a call they say conratulations you can get on the course as they spoke to their directors who read some info on you and they were impressed now cough up £3000

Basically they will take anyone on, also you will get an ICS certification (toilet roll basically)

Stay away and thats coming from someone whos been in the industry for years from DOS upto Vista.

Go to the open university or local college.
  • Hi.

    Question from my hubby.

I have a PC connected to my TV (via S-Video cable) as I use this for online streaming and viewing on my TV (larger/better picture).

Can I install another graphics card to my PC and thus watch 2 different online streams/video from my PC? - 1 diverted to my TV, and 1 still viewable on the PC?

SO both myself and my wife can happily watch 2 seperate streams at the same time? What implications does that have for audio? 2 seperate sound cards also?

    Thanks.

  • decided to dual boot my desktop. Anyway it has an asus a8v deluxe motherboard with Promise PDC20378 controller with fake software raid 0. Now windows is already installed and after having a little look at this howto http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Gentoo_Install_on_Bios_(Onboard)_RAID created a ~50mb partition for boot at the start of the array and tried to install from an amd 64 2006.0 live cd (as 2006.1 didn't find/recognise the array). Anyway the array is shown in /dev/mapper but fdisk doesn't find any partitions on the array yet. Oh and yes windows still works - I didn't totally fubar the array by rearanging the partitions.

So I decided to go ahead and just do a clean install of both windows and gentoo now the array in /dev/mapper is listed as

    nvidia_fdcjcfhd

and its meant to be the promise controller?!? Now the even more confusing bit is when I partitioned it and rebooted back to the live cd all the partitions show up happily /dev/mapper/nvidia_fdcjcfhd1 ... and so on. However when I went to do a fresh windows install it doesn't see the new layout - only the original one that its used to. Obviously something isn't right here and for the life of me I can't quite figure it out.

Any help whatsoever or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Could be that the switch is stuck on or off.

modern computers tend to use a push to make switch (it is only connected when you press it) this switches a voltage on the motherboard and starts the power supply up fully.

a new switch should be less than a pound so try that first.
