OS Daily Thursday 5th January 2012
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 5th January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

Morning all,

Blowing a gale again here, can here it through the windows, hope everyone is safe, the weather has been mad recently.

Off to work today, yesterday was a bit of a shock to the system after 2 weeks off, hopefully today will be better, and I will get my head in work mode again.

Dinner tonight is fish fingers chips and beans, so nice and easy, I did a wash last night which is drapped over the rads, so will put that away tonight.

Started my healthy eating yesterday, would like to loose a stone, have not got much of the right foods in really, so just generally cutting back and eating more fruit, no butter etc.

JG any sing of baby Roo yet ?

Have good days all xx

Well I'm back online, not sure how long for though, what with Network Rail slicing through the cables & the BT call center muppets most of whom don't know their ar** from their elbow it's been an entertaining time!
I hope everybody is safe & well, I will try & catch up with the previous threads this evening.
I went back to work yesterday to find an email informing me thay my new machines were arriving that day at 10am & they did, woohoo.
It's very blustery here again today & driving hubby to the station was a lesson defensive driving, trying to avoid flying bags of rubbish & even an airborne Christmas tree. I wasn't helped by the driver behind me who had obviously left his glasses at home & so drove very close with his head lights on full beam!
    Have a good day everybody.
    Hugs Hester

    Good Morning All

Yes, weather is horrible here too, was going to pop to town with DD but the weather has put me off, have too much to do indoors anyway.

Had a no spend day yesterday :j thats two on the trot, didnt bother going to tescos so no temptation to spend over the amount of the giftcard.

Today will be another mix of office work and housework, mainly housework. DD is at home as doesnt go to college today so I have warned her to stay out of my way :o

Have had some burgers hanging about the freezer for a while so think will have them for dinner in buns with french fries - nice an easy.

Have a great day all and keep safe x

    Morning everyone

Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Horrendous night here, wind has been gale force all night, have been up since 4.30am - DH woke me as the boundary fence between us and neighbour broke and we needed to get it cleared up as it was banging around in the wind - he was up anyway to go to work stupid early, I haven't been able to get back to sleep!! So will be getting through the day on caffeine. Fence is now completely broken - the back garden fence and dividing fence between us and the neighbour is completely gone except 1 panel (the last time I looked but as it has no real support so don't expect it to last the day!) - don't like that at all makes me feel vunerable, but fortunately the back of house is at the end of a cul-de-sac so not as bad as it could be! DH wanted me to knock on neighbours door at 4.30am this morning and tell him fence had come down - think you can probably guess my reply!!

Am not looking forward to today as I know neighbour will back banging on our door at the first opportunity demanding when are we going to get a new fence put up and that it had better be quick etc!! Hope he doesn't bother today as my reply won't be very ladylike - this is the neighbour who on the day we moved in, the removal lorry was on the driveway, we had literally just arrived and had got the door unlocked and the lorry open to put first items into our new home, he came out of his house and said he was glad it was us that was moving in as he hadn't been able to find out who had bought the property and that did we know that the big fence between the 2 properties was our responsibility so if it was damaged or needed replacing it was up to us to do it and pay for it! Nice welcome - not!! Needless to say we're polite but keep ourselves to ourselves. :o Think he may be coming a bit unstuck though as he's attached stuff on his side of the fence that is now all going to need un-attaching otherwise the fence can't be replaced - and if he doesn't want to contribute (we're not holding our breath as they wouldn't contribute with the other neighbour and that fence was nowhere near as big as ours and then had the cheek to say he thought they had gone over the boundary and was taking up too much of his garden as it turned out they hadn't) the fence will be our choice, erected when we want and everything is going to be done to suit us - in my book - if it's a dividing fence between 2 properties then you should go halves each if it needs replacing - irrespective of "who's" fence it's supposed to be! But of course I know it doesn't work like that! If he doesn't want to contribute he has no say in design, when it's being done etc!! Not happy we are going to have to pay all the money as it will be I'm guessing £1000 ish - so it's not cheap!:( I would understand if they were hard up or had a young family but they are a couple who are retired teachers - they go away regularly on holidays/weekends away, replace their car regularly etc! The fence the other side blew over between us and the other neighbours and it was their responsbility and we just spoke to them and said we were happy to contribute and could get some quotes - they said yes, we got a quote and it was half what he had been quoted so authorised us to organise the work, we got it sorted, took the bill round and he duly paid us a cheque for half the cost - excellent job done, no nastiness, everyone's happy! Wish the otherside neighbours would be the same. Sorry that turned into a bit of a rant! Just makes me so cross.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Anyway on to OS, now on days off, so will be trying to organise some fencing companies to come and quote for the work - will also be trying to do washing, drying, ironing and will endeavour to get the hoover pushed round! Want to get as much done as possible as friends coming over for eats and drinks Sat night for my birthday. Boys back to school tomorrow.

Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

Hope everyone is safe in these winds.
Back to work for me today. It's 3 weeks tomorrow since we broke up for Christmas. I know I'm lucky as I'd only been in the job 6 weeks! It'll be head down and try to keep the stamina going until I get back into the routine of it.
Tea tonight will probably be turkey casserole from freezer, made early Dec with a pack of diced turkey. We had beef and gammon at Christmas so I'm looking forward to this turkey!
Dogs been walked by DH and I'm just about out the door.
    Have a good day all

Morning everyone - and what a flipping night it was here. Went to bed with the sound of driving rain lashing at the back of the house, the windows rattled and the shutters rattled for most of the night. Then the wind joined in! Today it looks dry but the trees are still moving a tad too much for my liking.

Off to work today but need to do a tidy round this evening as there is a decorator coming tomorrow morning to give a quote for the living room and hall. Then on Saturday I'm getting a carpet measurer (!) is coming to give a quote for new carpeting for the same spaces. The current carpet has been down over 20 years so I feel justified in the expense. The whole place needs a major refresh but I hate the upheaval and OH is useless at doing the painting.

DW was on last night so kitchen is still clear. No WM until tomorrow. Last night I began to clear out the wardrobe and put 12 fleeces/fleece type jackets into a black bin bag and will take them to the local homeless people place for them. I hate fleeces and can't bear wearing them - yeugh.

Fridge is quite empty this morning but there is plenty of meat and veggies in the freezer so will run that down. I'm away from home next week from Monday - Friday so OH will fend for himself. He's good at going into town to a cafe for tea!

I have rambled on enough now - hope everyone has a good day. Hugs all round.
