Virgin Media VIP Package

Come 8pm, we can't go to the pub or the movies or anything, so we flop exhausted onto the sofa to watch some TV instead, or we'll be on t'internet.
Prior to kids (and wife!) I used to be out basically every night. Each night is at least £10, usually a lot more, so a realistic £100 per week. £400 per month compares badly to the £85 substitute!
But as you say watching "some" TV is not worth paying £85 for repeats and mass adverts its a really bad deal even though im with virgin anyway.

I agree with you. I got told by a technical guy it's still NTL, they've got a lease on the Virgin name for 40 years!!

Well, TV is only a third of the £85, realistically. The other thirds being broadband and the phone calls.
So £28.33333333333333etc is the TV portion.
£28 per month for Lost, 24, ER, Desperate Housewives etc etc etc viewable upstairs and downstairs, plus a PVR, plus a lot of on-demand programs, plus all the footie and 10 movie channels seems quite reasonable to me.0 -

Don't quite see your logic there. I'd love to have the "VIP" treatment but at the moment I get all of my calls (except the usual exceptions) AND unlimited 2Mb broadband (OK it's not 10Mb but it does me) for the poultry sum of £19.99 per month (which comes to about £25 with the mobile calls etc) plus the tenner I still have to pay BT for some reason. That makes the telly portion the thick end of 50 quid a month. OUCH - I like my telly but not that much !!!0 -

I get all my calls (VoIP), 40 or so channels (Twin Freeview PVR) and 4mb BB for £20.. Why somebody would want to pay £85 for a few more channels is beyond me.. But hey, its your money, not mine.0 -
I think a lot of people here are missing the point. This is an excellent price for this range of products from NTL (Virgin Media). If you don't want such an extensive range of products, you can buy anything from the 2 for £20; 3 for £30 or any other combination which suits your lifestyle.
I have the V+ box which makes SKY+ look second class. It costs £15 per month but gives me a triple tuner and High Definition television. Not only that, if (when) it breaks it is repaired or replaced at NTL's expense, not mine. If a Sky+ box breaks, you need to buy a new one. The V+ box also allows you to keep your other Tuner in another room for a year at essentailly no cost (after which it goes up to £10 per month).
I have 10Mb broadband which operates at around 9,600kbps - ADSL wouldn't even come close. This costs me £35 per month.
I have the family TV package which is now known as XL. This costs me £20 per month and (in my view) is excellent value for money.
Add on my phone rental and calls (average of £13 per month) and I am paying £83 per month all in for a package which doesn't includes sports / movies or the international / mobile talkplans. I reckon if I moved to this package, I would end up paying around £88 per month (£5 per month more) but get the movies / sports which are currently missing.
I will certainly be calling them to upgrade.0 -
Lowtrawler - thank you, you explained that far better than I could!
People are not comparing like for like when they post. Yes, you can get broadband and TV for far less, but you don't get the speed or reliability of cable, far less channels, no PVR, no movies, sports etc.
Apples and oranges, really.0 -

- I'm an existing customer and got a postcard in the mail saying that we're changing to Virgin Media, and explaining what it means for existing customers. It said that all broadband packages will now be unlimited.
- Virgin.net is no longer, it now redirects to Virgin Mobile
- On Virgin Mobile, the broadband packages for non-cable are the same as they were with Virgin.net except now it says unlimited downloads.
Because of the first point, if they try to hit me with any bandwidth cap warning, then I'll simply say they told me it was so. Also, it's the same price anyway, so it would be silly to waste people's time to "upgrade" to the same package with the same price and name.Roll on spring, I hate the cold weather:(

But paying £85 to see repeats and stuff that will be shown on Freeview some weeks later so all you really need is phone and broadband.0 -
i am an existing customer and was paying £90 for the old telewest package and they have just swapped me onto the VIP package(with more stuff) for the £85 deal. just phoned didnt have to threaten them with leaving they just gave me the deal, no probs.:hello: :j0
