techspec, you've had a go at 2 people now about this glitch but can I just point out that the staff aren't daft you know. The transaction I was denied on was one where the girl hadn't even gotten close to the end to total. She could see the discounts coming off on her screen and voided immediately. Now unless I held her down at gun point and demanded she scan in the expensive stuff first and hope that she didn't spot that total going down then what do you do?

True , but if you have 6 shots and 6 tubs of vitamins in your basket plus some other small items and it all comes to 90p its going to flag up a very confused SA straight away! lol

I might try it with my Boots points next Wednesday if its still on and am going to be spending around 20 quid so hope its less noticeable??? .... Do I have to hope for a half asleep SA or something? ;)

I suppose it depends on the SA , if I was aware there were some items instore which were free so therefore brought the balance down and the customer had alot of other items ( plus there was a big queue ) I reckon I'd just put it all through!! x

Then again there was a big queue @ Oxford St last week and the SA scrutinised my Rumblers voucher for AGES ... She must have read it over 3-4 times turned it over again , read it again & repeated until she didn't know what to do BUT ( reluctantly ) put it through! LOL
  • got a bag of goodies for £4.22 today, that is my 4th visit, boots have had about £13 out of me, but i am going to limit myself to the one near work as it is SS and iff i put a few items through that i pay for, you can see what the shots and vits deduct as it does it everytime you scan it updates your total, therefore i can get a lower balancee, got 9 shots today, 6 vits and 3 ricola, i am on a diet, so ricola are fab for me, when i fancy smething, but cant have it.

Won't bne going back until monday now, but i have enough, ladies bits and deodrant to last me a few months, just gonna top up on handwash and toothpaste lol.

    this is fab, thanks op.

Spot on, I got trouted yesterday and she'd only scanned half my stuff.....they can see the totals going down as they scan the stuff. As you say the staff are not idiots.

I really can't be bothered with this one to be honest unless I just happen to be by a boots in which case I will look in. Most of us will spend more than the 2.81 we'll gain in petrol getting to a boots!

I totally agree. All I'm saying is that the SA can see the total going down with each scan when they get to the vits & shots so it might be an idea to put the dear stuff down first. Unfortunately for me the SA ignored the nappies and went straight for the shots. You win some you lose some eh?
  • Lol I think this is a good deal for those with a self scan at their local store but for those like me who only have SA at the tills it can all be a bit daunting!!!

Even with a self scan store nearby I reckon 2 or max 3 lots would be my limit as I'd be dreading having to walk away from it if it didn't work or went wrong and I'd hate for an assistant to have to be called over to cancel the lot for me or something , don't like holding up queues with SA's on the tills either.....

Or the worst case scenario would be paying full price! LOL

We all like a smooth transaction after all , its bad enough when coupons don't scan

One went to the till with a NEGATIVE balance and one with a basket of 9 or so items - inlcuding 3 large ones - and the total was 90p. Clearly thats asking for trouble.

Theres a big difference between that and an eagle eyed staff member trouting you.

As for the order stuff are scanned - i put my vitamins and shots at the bottom of the basket under a boots magazine - so that everyting above the magazine would be scanned first. But thats glitch experience for you :D

I have some interesting (good) info regarding this "deal"...

I've done it 3 times now and was almost trouted on the 3rd. They only had 5 shots on display so when I asked if they had more moody SA1 said you only get 1 shot per 3 vits. I knew this was rubbish so she starts scanning them to check...uh-oh now the balance is negative...

Unless I'm reading the first post wrong, the SA was the one who was trying out the shots to see if they were 1 per 3 vits or 3 per 3 vits. It was at this point that the negative balance occured, not in the course of a normal transaction.

I've never glitched in Boots before so lesson learnt - don't take young kids and make sure your glitchy stuff is the last to go through. Unfortunately all 5 times I've tried I've had the kids with me so haven't been able to properly browse and avail of the advantage card MOCs to hide my goodies. Roll on a child free day tomorrow. Just gathering up a list of stores as Boots seem to have taken over loads of normal chemists so not sure how likely they are to stock the shots.
  • tecspec has a point about 1 thing, thats the getting a negative balance and actually waiting for the change! come on,i can understand goods but actually waiting for the money? bit wrong, we all love a glitch, that person knew what they were doing, it wasnt a mistake.

Anybody can be trouted, some boots staff sound like right withces lol, guess you win some you lose some :)

  • My store with a ss till has no shots in stock so I had to go to a store with a normal till.

Got 6 shots and 6 vits and about £17 of other stuff and paid about £12.50. The stuff I bought was mostly half price in the sale as well so got a lot of value for my spend as well as the free shots and vits.

Teenage dd is going to a sleepover tonight so is taking shots with her for everyone's breakfast tomorrow!
