    Hi,

The Wife and I popped into our local Halifax today to take advantage of this offer. We sat down and then the advisor claimed we were not eligible, as we both hold existing Reward Accounts in sole name.

Having read the T&C is did ask her to check the website, and she referred us to this statement on their first bullet point: "You must not have a Halifax bank account with us"

At this point I backed down. Having read the T&C's again I've found that point 9, paragraph 3 clearly states:

"The offer is available to existing customers who already have a Halifax or Bank of Scotland Current Account, Reward Current Account or Ultimate Reward Current Account in their sole name and wish to open a Halifax account in joint names."

Think I'll pop back in tomorrow. Bit annoyed, but being an existing Halifax customer you get used to it. The £5 a month numbs the pain a little.

so just open a current account and you get £100 ? must be a 'catch' somewhere along the lines?

hmmm might make a Halifax current account with them then ? (will that be ok for me.. seeing as im with TSB?)

There would seem to be nothing in the rules/T&Cs to prevent you from switching from a Lloyds TSB account to a Halifax account, and getting the £100. (Just prevents switching from Halifax/BOS accounts.)

The advisor perhaps misunderstood your intentions - or alternatively they misunderstood the details of the offer.

So it was the second alternative - the advisor didn't understand the details of the offer.

Let's be clear though on this 'opening a Halifax account in joint names' thingy. You don't get the £100 for opening a new Halifax current account - only for using their switching team to switch certain regular transactions from an account held elsewhere. Therefore you need to present the Halifax with details of another joint account with DDs that they can switch to this new Halifax joint account.
So make sure you have that set up first ... ;)

    Hi

Thanks for the response. The advisor was completely clear on what our requirements were, we had all the details of out existing joint account and existing direct debit details. The advisor just didn't know about the terms of the offer, nor did she make an effort to familiarise herself with them.

I'm going to visit branch again in an hour. I don't anticipate a problem this time, but if it fails, I'll take you advised approach.

    Thanks once again. :T

    Hi all,

I applied for this account, but after entering my address details, I got a message saying they cannot complete this online and to go into a branch with photo ID and some sort of bill and they would be able to continue then. The only factor that could be contentious in my address is that I've been at my current address for 7 months. Has anyone else attempted to apply and got the same message?

    Message was...

We can't process your application for an online current account.

However, we may be able to process your application in a Halifax branch but we need to talk to you further about your application.

Simply call into any Halifax branch with:

An original document confirming your identity e.g. passport or driving licence.

An original document confirmation your address e.g. utility bill or bank statement.
What form of identification should I bring?

The 1K transfer is fine for the £5 reward, but the switching team state they want to see your salary deposited for the £100. They may pay the £100 any way, but they reserve the right to remove the bonus if they fail to see salary payments. So this kinda excludes people who get payed by cheque or who are self employed.

Couldn't you just give income to a friend to pay back into your account by a normal standing order, or is salary supposed to be tagged in some special way?

It's supposed to come from a "company account", but I'm not sure how they would check this, although having a reference of "BURGER KING" for example is clearly different to "MR K L INGON". The second I would say was a personal account. Maybe thats how they decide.

Maybe if you pay someone like BT £1000 more than your payment and then ask for it to be refunded to your new Halifax account, that would work?
