HALIFAX £100 opening bonus

Just seen an advert on the TV for Halifax - if you open their reward current account and switch your existing account you will receive a £100 bonus.
The reward current account also pays £5 p.m. irrespective of whether you are overdrawn or in credit, but overdraft rates are steep.
I've just checked the website which states the following:
I just tried applying online and got an error so called them (I have a credit card with them) - their sales dept is closed but they said they'd call me back tomorrow.
Going to switch my and my wife's single accounts = £320 in the first year. Also going to ask about switching our joint account but don't think we'll get a £100 bonus for that. Still £60 a year though :money:

Unfortunately I have just opened this account with them, my letter is dated 31st December welcoming me, doh!
As I have a 14 day cooling off period, can I cancel straight away and then re-apply before 19th Feb. I'm sure the small print will say you will only get the £100 if you have not had the current account with them before, but as I cancel within my cooling off maybe I could argue I never actually had it?
Worth a go!0 -
so just open a current account and you get £100 ? must be a 'catch' somewhere along the lines?

You have to move all direct debits with them, and do it via the switch team. Also you must have your work pay go in the account. This is to stop what people used to do, open the account, get the cash and go back to whoever they were with before. :rotfl:0 -

I believe you have to deposit £1000 per month to get the £5. What you could do of course is kep £1 in the account, deposit £1000 on a particular day every month then withdraw it the next. It's the depositing of the money that earns you the reward, not the balance.0 -

Nothing to do with the £5 award thing, he's asking about the £100 bonus for joining... :beer:0 -
When I asked in a branch about this, I was told that:
To get the £5, just deposit £1000 in the previous calendar month.
To get the £100, you need to switch your salary to the account. Must come from an account that is not in your name. The switching team will check this 4 weeks after the switching process is complete.0 -
