Resisting the URG to Spend Whilst Getting My Life Back

2012 is a year of all sorts of fabulous things, the Olympics, the Diamond Jubilee and also the year that URG gets her life back.
A bit about me – 33 years old, married for over 1 year, working full time in a well paid job that seems safe for the moment. DH and I want to have a family but there are few stumbling blocks in the way – most of them are mine!
DH has his own debts and doesn’t seem to want to deal with them fully. I have tried to help but he is not receptive and I there’s not alot I can do about it. Our finances are separate and I will keep it this way for now.
The last couple of years have been difficult and I am now ready to move forward and take back my life, while inserting some fun, laughter and ‘me’ time.
This next year is going to be ‘all about me’ and my endeavours to meet my goals:
· To spend more time (not money) on me
· To lose weight
· To exercise for 30 mins per day
· To maintain and develop my relationships with hubby, friends and family
· To keep everything in control at work
· To develop my hobbies
· To get this flat finished (new bathroom) and decluttered
· To manage my finances so that I can enjoy my new life and save for the future.
Looking at these, they all seem a bit boring but they are part of something to give me improvement overall.
I am on a mission to enjoy my life and appreciate all the small things whilst not going mad with the spending.
I do hope you can join me for the ride!!!!!

Managed to get through the list quite well today.
In money news - I paid for a late lunch for DH and me today and some snacks. This is what really needs to stop. I've told DH that we aren't eating out until next month!
I did get 3 x £2 coins from DH to put in the sealed pot so that was positive.
I'm hoping tomorrow will be a NSD! My first of the month - I need to get to 10 by the 27th (pay day).
Hope all of you who are going to work tomorrrow manage to get through the day!!!

Hi Urg,
Looking forward to hearing about your journey. I think losing weight and exercising features in so many of our set goals. I also have an ironing pile that seems never ending and managed to do half an hour today. I guess if I can do about half an hour a day, I might be able to get it cleared in a couple of weeks
What hobbies do you have that you want to develop? I seem to have lots of balls in the air, some of which I don't really care for but I don't want to drop them either.Just keep swimming!0 -
Thanks Dolly Rocker -love the name!
Itsagoodlife -sadly the ironing pile n a ever quite disappears but I really would like to get back into control. As for hobbies I'd really like to get proficient in knitting and sewing and I really would like to get back into reading. I used to read a book a week - I think I read two in the whole of last year! I used to have a long commute but now am only on the tube for 20 mins so don't have long enough to really get into a book. So now it will have to be part of my evening routine.
Off to read for a few more kind and then to sleep.
Night!

Hey you!!!
Of course you know I fully appreciate where you are coming from.
I'll join you for the ride!! Hold on to your hats !!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Hold on to your hats indeed!!!!
First day back at work was busy. I am on a mission to get into control with the work stuff too! There is always so much to do.
Well tonight I got home and dealt with a few things that have been hanging around and not been done. Not having hubby home means I get more done! So I have- unpacked 2 boxes of goodies bought in the sales.
- Replaced batteries in the energy monitor
- Checked the battery in the smoke detector - it doesn't work so I have added that to the shopping list
- cooked dinner and washed up
- put a load of washing on
- AND COMPLETED MY TAX RETURN!!!!
I have also managed my first NSD of the month. I know tomorrow will be a spend day as I am meeting colleagues for lunch but will try to keep it to a minimum.
I also walked from work to the station - only 20 minutes but I felt better for doing it.
Not much time to do much else tonight but I will try and read a little on here before I head to bed. I am knackered!!!
Hope you are all okay!

HI All
Yet another late one. Got home late as I went to hospital to see Gran on my way home from work. She was pretty tired so I didn't stay too long. Thankfully I had taken out the dinner from the freezer so all I had to do was heat it up.:D The added benefit is that the packed freezer is being emptied this month as we try to keep costs down.
Today was a spend day - I met my project group for lunch today. I also had a snack bar. All has been noted and the shrapnel will be deposited in the sealed pot.
I have realised that I am not drinking any water at work. I must get this in check. I moved offices in the summer and am further away from the kitchen. I have pulled a water bottle from the cupboard so that I can fill it and leave it on my desk. My aim will be to finish this bottle by the end of the day.
Work feels manic. It was so busy before Christmas that I struggled to keep up. I'm trying to not get stressed at work but I there is so much to do that it can be overwhelming - I just need to keep at it!
In other money news - I have set up a regular saver to help my savings plans. I had one last year that I paid into but it takes 5 for FD to change the name of the account so that I can set up a new one. Because of the holidays it has taken longer to get the new one set up!
Not much else to report - just watching the end of Die Hard 2 before heading to bed. I need to get back into going to be earlier but it isn't happening just yet.
Hope you are all okay.
