I think it's all the money they're paying to the Countdown team to come up with their security conundrum thingies. I like they ones where you can't even see the words properly or where the 2 words spell out a phrase that describes Ryanair's opinion of us - eg Sad Loser4 or Pointless search or Justgi Veup

I bet its because Alicante have a brand spanking new airport and they are charging Ryanair more so they are passing that on to the customers
    Have a nice day :)

yes - but Ryanair's normal reaction to that is to sulk off to another airport

    Not just Alicante.

Looked at flights to Rome which I have had for less than £50 in the past.

    Now £500 odd.

Budget Airline. Give me a break!

Very true, but there is only a finite amount of airports in Europe and Ryanair can't walk away from them all!

On a side note, O'Lairey himself has admitted that Rynair will HAVE to charge more for tickets over time to keep the business model viable. There's little or no money in flying punters to Spain for £50!

They have done; and continue to make money yes. But get yourself a 737 and fly people to Alicante for £50 and see how long you last. Ryanair make a shed load of cash but we all know none if it comes from the bargain basement airfares.

All I'm saying is the market is changing and Ryanair are adapting to it like any good business should. Passengers are becoming more savvy and dodging the extras (see the credit/debit card or increased baggage fees), airports are becoming more savvy (gone are the days when Ryanair can just name their price), the good deal on the 737s is nearing its end which in itself has a big impact. Ryanair will adapt and one way is raising base fares... MOL has said as much himself.
