Do You Wash your Hands After Using the Toilet?

Yes I wash my mitts after using the toilet.
When I worked for a company that sold medical supplies, they tried to insist that everybody followed basic hygenie rules, there were hand washing posters all over. When I moved into the repair side, we used to get a lot of dirty equipment, soiled with human wastes, so some of us became a bit OCD with hand washing & gelling (with good reason), but better to be safe. Although when dealing with some of the stuff that came in, it made us wonder how clean some of these care homes actually are. You are never going to be free from germs, no matter how clean you are, and as long as you don't put you fingers in your mouth, or eat something after handling something very mucky, you should be ok. I reckon you are more at risk for bugs with some one coughing all over you than from a toilet flush or door handle.BEST EVER WINS WON IN ORDER (so far) = Sony Camcorder, 32" lcd telly, micro ipod hifi, Ipod Nano, Playstation 3, Andrex Jackpup, Holiday to USA, nintendo wii, Liverpool vs Everton tickets, £250 Reward Your thirst, £500 Pepsi, p&o rotterdam trip, perfume hamper, Dr Who stamp set, steam cleaner.

You'd be surprised at what can set someone off who's been through hell and back!0 -

Also the loo seat, from being raised and lowered by people who haven't washed. (I often wonder why the loo seat in a ladies loo has been left up - can't imagine why - unless someone has taken their small son in there I suppose.)
You know, if you flush a toilet without the lid down you send a ton of little bacteria and faecal matter into the air. There's nothing at all you can do about this unless you there's a lid you put down first, and I take it you don't get ill every time you flush a toilet?
Stop worrying! You're fine!0 -

Please consider for a moment, that those gels for some people are essential! When my Mum was going through chemo last year. Before I touched her or her stuff, I had to use the gel, and carried it around with me for a while after her chemo had finished. She had NO immune system, and we had to be very, very careful!
Well, yeah.
There's a huge difference between normal healthy people and people with compromised immune systems. I work in a hospital with immuno-compromised patients so I'm constantly washing my hands and am incredibly aware of hand hygiene when I'm at work, the rest of the time I just relax!
In fact, healthy people who over use anti-bacterial products aren't doing sick people any favours at all, you're contributing to the development of multi-resistant organisms.0 -
After going for a pee I do not wash my hands unless I get urine on them. Do not wash my hands before eating or cooking...only time I do wash them is in the shower and after a number 2.
Not had a cold or any kind of sickness in over 2 years now. When I see people with those little anti bacteria gels I shake my head, no wonder pharmaceuticals have some of the highest profits in the world.
Cooking for one, I hope _pale_ .
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

I used to work as a barmaid and one place I worked in had the mens room door right opposite the bar. one quiet evening the landlady and I did a straw poll on how many men came out still zipping up thier trousers! Obviously they wouldnt have washed thier hands! we were disgusted to find that nearly 70% did this!!!!!!!!!!!! That evening the landlady stopped putting dishes of salted nuts on the bar!!!!!!!!!!!!
oh and, nearly all the offenders were older 'gentlemen'!
Ewww:eek: There was a prog years ago where they tested bowls of nuts left at bars and found traces of up to 7 different types of semen and urine on them:eek:
I'm slightly obsessive re handwashing:o:happyloveBaby girl born 27/2/12:happylove

Yup, that's pretty much what I said.
Obviously there are people that NEED to be in a germ free environment, people like you mum. But there's no need for people in general to go to such extremes.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
it is for precisly this reason that i never open doors with my hands - always use sleeves or carrier bag .. anything to avoid where dirty people touch
