Thanks for the analysis that is really fascinating and some of it super true. The strangers certainly didn't seem scary and actually they turned out to be almost my mums neighbour althought I wouldn't have known them.
As for the Blackberry it's just my work phone but dead handy but at the weekend and after 5pm I really don't use it that much.
Super tired tonight after my long drive and appointments today. Just looked at the redundancy calculator shocked that you only get 1 1/2 after your 41st birthday I thought it was every year. That means I only have 6 1/2 weeks statutory pay due, as that final 3 months of year 7 doesn't count. Not a lot so hopefully the voluntary will add a bit more and hopefully double it. Will chase it tomorrow if I haven't heard anything by then.
Spoke to another affected colleague today, he cannot afford not to apply but as he lives 30 miles from the office and has no problem in covering two of the required three areas he is fine. Now off to bed feel dead.Save £12k in 25 No 49

Could not quite sleep so went and got my contract out I have been there 7 years and 3 months to date so that's 7 1/2 weeks redundancy but they need to give me 1 months notice plus a week for every year over 4 so that is 1 month and 3 weeks. Means my leaving date of April is doable easily and a bit more statutory pay which helps. Hope HR gets back to me tomorrow will keep updating here it keeps me sane.Save £12k in 25 No 49

Ok I know this is futile without the actual letter from HR but just trying to work out how long I could live without a proper wager.
Expenses:
Cleaner £43
Joint bills £500
Contacts £15
Gym £20
My share of food bill £250 (we can cut this a lot)
Spending money incl holidays, toiletries etc £500
Total £1078 a month.
Would have a wage until 1st April (lets assume this) £3854
Min statutory redundancy is £3375
Voluntary redundancy ????
Buying a second hand car £6000 - £7000
Phone £10 per month pay as you go? No idea really we do have a spare handset
Savings £15,000
Turns out my friend who works for DH at the moment is paid £200 a week (two days a week) thats £800 a month I think, she is not permanent and if I needed that job its mine obviously.
Just wish HR would bloody hurry up.

OK the figures did look good at first but now they are really bad and I am almost sure there was been a mistake. I did post this on the redundancy board so copying it here if you dont mind.
I am having to ask what would you expect to get for going voluntarily.
I have worked there 7 years and 3 months in a senior sales role, my remit is changing and I have to spend more time at HQ 3 1/2 hours away which I do not really fancy. There are 5 of us at risk of redundancy but they are creating 4 new jobs with the changed remits same pay as we are on now. They are also at the same time hiring someone to cover another geographical area so its not as if its a cost cutting excessive.
This is the letter I got:
Further to your request for more information regarding redundancy payment: should you be made redundant and not find suitable alternative employment, you will beentitled to a statutory redundancy entitlement of £3,375.00. You would also beentitled to notice of 7 weeks. In most circumstances you would usually be asked to work your notice however if that was not possible you would be paid for yournotice and in that eventuality that would equate to £4,749.84.
Ifyou were considering accepting voluntary redundancy, we could offer a paymentof £10,000 that sum would cover all of your entitlements including notice, holiday and statutory redundancy.
The figures all fit but the £3375 plus £4749.84 equals £8124.84 take off £10,000 thats £1875.16 for offering to go voluntarily. I find that a bit chocking as usually they are a very generous company. Do you think they could have got themselves muddled up thinking the £4749,84 incl statutory and lieu of notice so £10,000 sounds good. The £1875.16 also incl 4 days leave they need to pay me for .
I want to ask to work my 7 weeks and also have £10,000.
Please comment if you dont mind? Have you every been offered voluntary redundancy it seems to me less than 3 weeks pay on top of statutory is not very good.:(:(Save £12k in 25 No 49

Must admit, mine was very generous but that was civil servie. 3 months paid notice and holidays paid plus the amount they gave for 20 years service.
Sorry, not much help.

You can ask, but there is no requirement on them to agree. Say you believe your 7 weeks notice should also include holiday accrual, that could be circa another 4 days.
They would probably consider paying you not to work your notice to be their generous gesture.
