What do you like to photograph...anything in particular?

Fingers crossed that some sort of work comes your way soon. I had to sign on last year for a little while. It's a complete pain in the backside and less than useless moneywise but better than nowt I suppose.
Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam
  • ... Not quite sure which one, and maybe all to differing degrees ...

Lagging - definitely lagging behind my self-imposed daily earning targets. Sagging - well not in the usual sense, but I'm certainly not spry & upright. Flagging - yep, that too ... it's so easy to when you seem to be going nowhere fast despite paddling desperately. :o

365 - I enjoy most genres really but very boringly I tend to lean to sea/landscapes & wildlife, but the atmospheric type ... Having said that - I do also like to try & do what might loosely (very loosely lol) be termed as photo-journalism, candid people shots that tell a story. I love the black & white medium and prefer to shoot in that. The only one that I guess I'm not so keen on, is formal portraits.

As for work ... I was a good girl today - sent off my applications for jobs from the paper and did my temp agency round - I'm hoping that one of them will summon up something for next week to save me from the frenzy of the JC.

I've come up with a flexi-schedule for during the working week. I drew the line at going back to school with a full timetable yet wanted to have a structure to the week, whilst retaining some flexibility to manoeuvre.

My days will be sectioned into job hunting, penny earning (surveys etc), batch-cooking, coursework, freelance research and de-cluttering. I'll generally be doing normal full-time working hours for this. I'm thinking along the lines of short bursts for each (except batch cooking) so that no one area gets to overload.

Enough drivel, time to sign off for the night

  • Not even lunchtime and its a mixed bag already ...

Had two "thanks but no thanks", one by post from after an interview and one by email to say no interview being offered. At least they let me know, which is better than most.

On the better side, I've found two more jobs worth applying for - so that's on my agenda for this afternoons job session.

  • ... amidst more cloud ...

One of the company's I sent my CV to yesterday, has called to invite me to an interview :D

It's not until end of the week, but in hindsight that's good as my wagon absolutely refused to start this morning ... didn't even pretend to try .. just nothing, no dash lights no noise nothing :( Garage are having a look at it tomorrow.

It was perfectly fine until it had the work done last week, I used it a couple of times and it was a little sluggish to start but not to a worrying degree ... then today, zip. Not happy bunny.

Good news on the interview, not such good news on the car though.
    Keep plodding.

  • Yes Beanie, I'm quite pleased with that after the disappointment from yesterday morning.

Today's mail has yielded some pleasant offerings, the first being £20 Clubcard vouchers. The second being the Tastecard's free 3 month trial diners card (spotted in last weeks MSE e-letter), let's hope that I'm able to make some good use of it. :p

Finally, Mr GA's DLA 2013/2014 award letter - this has increased slightly buy a few pennies. Was considering putting in an amended claim to try for low rate mobility component for him, but with the new PIP scheme, not sure if this is a waste of time or not. Reading the bumf that came with today's letter, as he's currently on an "indefinite" award, it looks like he won't be assessed & transferred over until 2015 at least.

The difference in getting him the extra award - or not - would mean a lot of extra money (well to us) over that time. Do I leave it until they call for him to then find that he could've been getting more all that time, or risk doing the amended claim now and getting bumped into the assessment pool now and the possible hassle we may get (reading others experiences on the DLA board). I just don't know :(

Wagon has gone to the car doctor, hopefully nothing drastic or expensive to fix.

Still lagging well behind on the earnings front, could do with either a temp job coming in or an immediate start position being offered .... alternatively I'll accept a nice sized lottery / scratchcard win (expecting miracles ? who me ? never ...!! :rotfl: )

Time to go do my afternoon sessions

  • And another £70 odd spent on the wagon today, that I sure could have done without :( What with the work last week and the work needed previously to get it through the MOT ... hoping that's my bad run of three over with

Also was a bit naughty and made a couple of "pick me up" buys :o but in my defense M'lord ... they are for things that will improve my interview appearance and also some reading material for one of the courses I have decided to go ahead with ...

Which leads me neatly into saying .. I've decided to go ahead with one of the courses for now - Business / Trade writing - and will look to take up the others as funds allow. In fact ... as I've been drafting this - I took the bullet & paid my enrollment deposit  Part of me said wait .. but they were offering a good discount for early sign up, which I couldn't pass up :p

Think I'll close out tonight on that positive note :)

  • ... It's interview day today and I'm busy doing my final prep for it. I also need to finalise my outfit. A bonus for this one, is that's it's fairly close to home.

I've been working on ways to help me keep "an air of confidence & interest" whilst not appearing "too keen". I say this as, in the past ,I seem to get job offers for roles that I'm not so fussed about. Too many times when I really like or want a role, I find that despite an interview going well .. I lose out.

After plucking up the nerve to enroll on one of my courses yesterday, I'm finding myself very impatient to get the materials ... I want to get on & get started!

    Time to get on

  • Hi Dragon nice to see you, and thank you for the good wishes :)

Interview went okay I think, though didn't much like the typing test - always find it difficult to do them well from "cold". It's not the same as when you're typing normally in other circumstances. Job is a little lower in pay than I'd like, but workable with the lower commute costs.

At the end I got the standard "we have a couple of other people to see before making decision and will be in touch" line - never sure if that's a truth or a fob off to be honest. We shall see.

Had a couple of "check ins" from one of the mobile apps, but nothing else to report earning wise today. I've got a broken metal bed frame that I need to see if one of these cash for metal companies will take off me - So that's on the task list for tomorrow.

Had a Red Rose gift from Mr GA, which was nice. We're having a Co-op Valentine meal (£10 meal offer which includes wine) tonight as our treat.

Tomorrow is job paper day again, so will spend the morning scouting through them. I also want to nip to the Farm Shop, want to get a sack of potatoes & maybe carrots as well. Two more things for the task list.

    Off for a browse ...
