Can I return this tablet

Then Currys had a duty to explain this to the OP.
Absolute rubbish. If a customer comes in and asks for a Playbook, the retailer has no duty to advise of all the pros and cons. This would be different if the consumer went a sought the advice of the retailer and made clear their requirements, so as to seek the retailers advice.
To be quite frank there is a lot of hysteria surrounding the Playbook due to it's massive price reductions. Without researching the product the layman would assume that they are buying a comparable product to the iPad. Anyone that has seriously looked into the Playbook knows that it was a still birth from RIM which limps in the PIM department unless bridged with a Blackberry handset. Whilst the hardware is good, it's crippled by a limited OS with poor third party developer support. Of course at Christmas consumers are blinded by the price and the industry hype of tablets, Its all about ticking boxes off the present list.
Apparently in February RIM have pencilled changes with the introduction of a native email client and other OS changes.
Having looked into the Playbook myself at Curry's, most staff seem to keep quiet about the product, and seem reluctant to demonstrate it. Some also admit it is cheap, but a poor substitute for more accomplished offerings. Almost as if they are being asked to sell Betamax recorders.
Even at the significantly reduced price there seems to be no shortage of Playbooks on the shelf. That in it's self should ring alarm bells.
The OP is going to be very lucky if Curry's refund or exchange the Playbook. There are hundreds of reviews online about the Playbook and if reading is not your thing try Youtube.
As the retailer I maybe willing to offer some good will if the OP was looking to exchange for a more expensive or profitable product. My farts hospitalize small children0 -

If a consumer buys a product that relies on another to make it work, then yes the retailer has a duty to explain that to a customer. You seem to know a lot about technology, which I am sure is laudable, but little about the principles of consumer legislation. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

Do you want to elaborate on the enabling act for this, with a source or is this just your opinion? My farts hospitalize small children0 -

The update is due next month. It's a very powerful little tablet and once these updates come into play, I suspect these will be the tab to have. I'd hold fire and sit tight if I were you.Beware the character seeking personal gain masquerading as a moral crusader.

I've just bought a Playbook for the same reason, the price. I did my research before hand, and everything you mentioned is coming in February! Personally, I love it already, without those features. You can access calendar/email etc online through the browser, and this will at least do me for a few weeks. I'm a huge Apple fan, but never really bought in to the iPad, and I think even as is the Playbook is a better buy than the iPad. The app store is a little limited at the moment, but Android apps are coming.
How about holding on to it until then? It'll be worth doing, you won't be able to buy an equivalent tablet for the same price, and the price for the Playbook is due to go back up soon.0 -
All the info you need is here: http://uk.blackberry.com/playbook-tablet/
It might be a decent tablet when they release the OS update. Personally I find 7" a bit small
At least it's not got a major manufacturing/design flaw like the HP Touchpad! Now that really IS a duff piece of kit. No wonder they ditched that. Mine is on it's second holiday to HP in Hungary.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
