I think what was meant was cutting night feeds would encourage baby to eat more during the day thus raising iron levels in baby, I could be wrong though :o I am frequently :D

I feel your pain on the escaping nose tubes sunshine - think our record was something like six feeding tubes in one day but not from wiggling - she kept yanking them out. In the end they got the extra sticky sticky stuff nicked from one of the other wards to keep it in for a few days - was a nightmare getting the last of the adhesive off afterwards, but it's the only practical use I've ever found for baby oil yet.

Crap night's sleep... hubby snoring, baby slightly awake most of the night off and on (I always wake up even when she just wiggles about in her cot) and a very unsettled dog who's off to the vet this evening as she's snapped one of her claws (I feel bad but it's the earliest we can get her in there) and was milking it for all it was worth - finally nodded off at 6am, hanging off the side of the bed with no duvet as the traumatised greyhound had got on the bed - nicked most of it, was using hubby's legs as a pillow and had acquired most of my duvet to tuck herself up under.... alarm went off at 6.30!

Parents are meant to be popping by on their way back up the country at some point today (we're so close to the M1 that most people who know us tend to use us as a cheaper alternative to the services) - don't know if they will or not given the weather - but looking at the internet it appears their flight at least escaped the cancellation frenzy at Heathrow.

  • Just noseying on your thread and wondered if i could ask some advice? I'm 17 weeks pregnant with twins and wanted to start buying some basics - plain white bodysuits/vests.

I was wondering how many of these did you need for your baby? I don't want to buy a ridiculous amount but then i don't want to be washing all the time either!

My twins will be born in May so i was going to buy 7 sleeveless bodysuits and 7 short sleeved bodysuits for each baby, in both sizes newborn and 0-3 months. What do you think? Or will i need more than this?

Any advice would be really much appreciated!

7 of each is an OK number (depends how often you do a wash, TBH). But you'll need sleepsuits.

Personally I'd get 7 sleeveless body suits and 7 sleepsuits and forget the shortsleeved suits at the moment. Getting a set in newborn and then another in 0 - 3 is a good idea. I had a big baby but he was still in newborn size for a good few weeks.

7 is a good amount, I'd bargain for 2 a day in the beginning, but some days you may only use 1, and others 3 or 4  it's how fast you can keep up with the washing is the main thing. I tend to buy 10-14 vests in each size but I use 2 a day (night time and day time) and live in a flat so trying to get things dry is a nightmare. Plus I have to wash his stuff separately from ours as his skin is sensitive and can't use softner and I like softener with our clothes.

To start with 7 should be enough and go from there if you need more tesco and Asda are open 24/7 :)

Gilly have you tried using white vinegar to soften his clothes? It works a treat with our baby clothes.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

Oh I haven't. Does it make them smell like vinegar, will give it a go with A's :)

How many sleepsuits do you recommend buying? how many do you go through a day?

When they're little it's easier to just have them in sleepsuits, day and night. They sleep much of the time anyway, babies don't really like getting dressed so fussing around with separates can be a hassle. Sleepsuits keep their feet warm and generally have scratch mitts too.

Depends on how often you want to wash. We got away with six sleepsuits but it was summer and I washed daily.

If you don't want to wash frequently perhaps 9 or ten?

7 seems the magic number. I would definitely get some tiny baby size (I had mine from Asda). Twins are likely to be smaller and my boy is fitting in tiny baby at 4 weeks and he's 8lb11!
