Ninja-Ro posted again as I was posting!! I didn't see it until afterwards.
I don't heat the water again, I boil it before putting it in the bottle, then I let it cool in there, I give the formula at room temperature, which is what mw told us to do. I'll have to download that book, we were told at antenatal that we would be given the link, but never happened. I'm also still waiting for my red book!!Quit smoking *1st January 2010*

How you finding the MAM bottles anyway - they're what we've bought for the Bump but a smidge sceptical they're not going to leak everywhere with the valve being in the bottom (if I'm honest I bought them for the pretty designs on them) - was going to cost me the cost of the bottles again to buy teats to reuse our Avent ones that are pretty much naked of markings on several of them (plus they ONLY do pink or blue coloured ones and the choice of only pink or blue is a massive pet hate of mine)
Being used as a sleeping bed again here after the usual hilarious battle of sleep Vs the eyelids - she will NOT have an early evening snooze in her cot but soooo desperately needs a lil cat nap to get through to bedtime bless her!Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
As for making bottles (unless you're using the new stuff that has to be done at a lower temperature - think it's one of the Hipp ones with probiotics in) what we've done is to have a flask full of boiled water from the kettle that we change every few hours during the day (on the highly scientific basis of whenever we've got the kettle on making a cuppa for ourselves) which keeps the water below boiling (so it doesn't fry the nutrients or scald yourself) but above 70C (so any nasties get zapped) - we make the bottle up when needed with half the quantity of water from the flask, full measure of powder, then top it up with a jug of cooled boiled water that we keep in the fridge to get it down to a drinkable temperature.... only issue is to watch how much the powder makes the water level rise and adjust so you cater for that adding in the cooled boiled water if you do it that way... never wanted to pre-make bottles (never have space in the blooming fridge!) and it's just been the easier way for us to do it without having a screamingly hungry baby wanting a feed!

I really like the MAM bottles. Leaking is only a problem for us when shaking the bottles.
I would have ideally liked to have made bottles ready and put them in the fridge. I have M.E so I need to find ways of managing my energy levels but realise that the guidance has changed and this isn't recommended anymore so I do the boiled water and flask method.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I worry alot about sterilisation and making sure that LO doesn't get ill etc.2019 Wins

Bottles - I make up a 24-hour supply at a time, which is far easier than preparing them when you need them. One of my daily evening activities when LO has gone to bed
This is what I do - thanks to the lovely Mozzy who shared what she did when I asked on here a few months back:
- Sterilise enough bottles for 24 hours, for us that was 6
- Boil water in kettle, leave to cool for 30 mins
- Make up bottles with water and milk powder
- Cool bottles quickly, I stick a couple of empty ice cream tubs in the sink and fill them with cold water and ice cubes
- Put bottles in fridge as soon as they're cold enough
- When you need a bottle, simply boil the kettle and warm the bottle in a bowl of just-boiled water. Only takes a couple of minutes.
This is what we've been doing since LO was about 3 weeks old, she's now 7 and a half months and we've never had a problem with bacteria etc. You do need to use the made-up bottles within 24 hours, so if ever you need less than you've prepared, pour it out.0 -
Nutella - I have always made enough bottle for a 24 hour period too, never done my boys any harm!
We have been watching Christmas films todaywe have people coming round tomorrow so really need to get on and wrap the sticking presents.
Has anyone tried eggnog? Every Christmas I want to try it but never do!
