Thought i'd look at this thread again after dipping in last year then deciding that i was spending more money on your recommendations! After seeing your lists i prob dont need to be here - you guys are professionals and i'm nowhere in your league. Good luck with your challenges.
Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!
  • I have got a good start with this challenge. I have a splutterer - 30 ml tube of Clarisonic cleanser which came with my new Clarisonic Mia. I think it should be finished tomorrow :j

You may notice that there has been a small reduction in the size of the stash over the couple of months I've been missing, and I need to re-count the travel stash as I rather think there are a few items to come off there, too! I did get one or two bits for Christmas but apart from the two Baylis & Harding bits it was all stuff I'd specifically asked for. To add to that I haven't bought anything in the Boots sale - our local store have the S&G set with the Breakfast Scrub and Hand Food in it left in large numbers so I might keep my eyes on stocks of that until the 75% kicks in and see if it's worth getting a couple then.

  • first UU of the year :)

Rahua shampoo and conditioner sachets. WNBA, they don't seem to be up to much. I'm used to shampoos not foaming so much because I use ones without sls but these just didn't seem to clean. conditioner has weighed my hair down too.

also, more spots from the dr haushka cleanser keep coming :( am on 8 now and I even got one on my cheek and I never ever get them there. resisting the urge to just slather on origins on the spot over my whole face to stop them :(

    Hello ladies,

Thanks to Pickle for the new shiny 2012 thread! I'm impressed, only 11 unnecessary INs -well done! I don't think I'll be that good for some time......

My aims for the new year:

100 UUs in 2012. I'm going to have a sort through the stash and dispose of any make up I don't like or which is years old.
Try and get my obsession with shower gels under control, don't need any more!!

    Successes from 2011:
I now always use body lotion after showers, I was a bit lazy about this and now I get through them quicker than I do shower gels - it was always the other way round!
I have my nails painted most of the time, only way to make a dent in my stash.

I don't get tempted in the shops here, it's only when I'm back in England. When I only get to visit Boots a few times a year, it's very difficult to resist, but far short of moving back to England I don't think I'll find a cure!

Actually, I did keep a note of the number of UUs/INs last year, but now can't remember which figures are which (I'm ashamed to say there wasn't much difference between them......)

Good luck to you all for the new challenge :)

Had my first UU of the year! Just a sachet of bath salts by Thai Spa (a Superdrug brand? Not sure where they came from but my mam thinks they're mine!). WNBA - they didn't do anything. What are bath salts actually for? They dissolved to be invisible and didn't smell of anything.

I'm not sure what they do and tend to steer away from them now after an awful experience with some that my late MIL bought for me. I put them in the bath and even before I got in they had stained the bath blue. Didn't get in because thought they were probably caustic if they did that the bath! Took me ages to get the blue off.
im on the elemis cleansing gel now. only had it open for a few days but so far so good :)

the sets were really good this year! the ones i got were from debenhams and had full size day cream, full size cleanser, full size body lotion, travel size shower gel and travel size body scrub. got one of them when they were reduced to £33 and my mum used a voucher for an extra 10% off so one was £30. my mum got two of the ones with the pro collagen cream in and both times we got the free gift with 5 miniatures so I've got 2 travel body oils, 2 travel papaya masks and a mini bubble bath extra:j my dad thought we were mental when we came home with the second lot :rotfl:

I've got a tube of the cleansing gel in my stash and will use it once I've finished the Elemis Balancing Cleanser. It's not a fave though as I don't really like the orange fragrance very much.

Those sets sound fab. I have so much Elemis body stuff in my stash though that I couldn't justify buying any of them. I am missing my usual post Christmas stock pile of PCMC but will have to buy this as and when I finish a tub. Am going to use an alternative moisturiser at the weekends to try and eek it out more.

MrM has said he will buy me the Elemis TSV on 7 Jan for my birthday which will set me up in cleanser/toner for a while but I'm having second thoughts cos I'm not that fussed about the Cellular Bliss Capsules. May see if I can find a kit for him to buy with the cleanser/toner and PCMC in it. Have you seen any?

Eeek! At least mine didn't do that.

Another 2 UUs - Soap & Glory Supereyes Supereyes - got this in the value set they had out at the end of last year. Probably WNBA as it seemed a little harsh for my skin. Also threw out the remainder of my Chocolala massage bar. It's cheating slightly, but it's awful - smells delicious but it turns my skin brown! Who wants that?!

It seems for the first time in 5 years I have not been invited to QVC's customer beauty event day. Don't get me wrong - I did love going to these days, meeting presenters and guests, getiin my hair/nails/face doen and getting 'freebies'.

However, I did wonder just how much you had to spend in order to get the invite in the first place - turns out, quite a lot!!!

Yeh I think QVC are a bit fickle that way! Welcome back though scrappie.

I'm getting better at them all. :D The challenges are making me sit back and consider my purchasing habits more than I would have previously. I haven't bought any toiletries (except for presents) for absolutely ages as I just desperately need the space and I'm so happy to use them up as they do go off eventually, and what a waste of money I don't have that is! I haven't bought a DVD for ages - I didn't buy that many, TBH, but it's a cumulative effect of buying them over a long period when they were on sale etc., then not watching them as I love films, but living at home with my mum means I never get to watch them as she doesn't like watching them, and my laptop is quite bust at the minute, making it harder to watch them in my room. Books are my true Achilles heel, but I've got much better and my 'Amazon reflex' as I call it has practically died: now I use my local library's online search engine, then try to buy it second hand on GreenMetropolis or Ebay etc. unless it's something I really need or one of my 2 favourite authors, who get a free pass in the challenge as life without their books is not even worth considering.

I'm getting there. Slowly. Oh so achingly slowly. But one day my room will be decluttered and lovely! :rotfl:

*Immitates Jeremy Clarkson* They say he smell of Lush and motor oil. And that his testicles look like shower puffs...all we know is that he's called the Smelly Stig! :rotfl:

I'm quite happy to get books from the library now. The only time I like to have a new book is at Christmas when I have a nice break to sit back and read. I got a copy of Scar Tissue by Anthony Kiedis from my daughter this year. Saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers in November and am new fan. TBH though haven't seen a book that I've really wanted to read for ages. A friend has lent me Game of Thrones which I'm hoping to have a good read of on the bus journeys into work.

Your JC immitation made me laugh out loud. :rotfl:

our debenhams and harvey nichols had them left but it was mostly just the ones with full size pots in that were £165.

thankfully it was small so it only had enough for 6 uses in it. although I think that prob makes my reaction to it seem much worse if it only had 3days near my skin!

I have my first UU of the year!

Lush Lil Pud (I think thats what it's called? from the 'secret santa' gift set) bath bomb. WNBA it didn't smell of anything in particular, turned the bathwater the most vile colour (a murky brown) and done nothing for my skin. If it hadn't been in the 50% sale in a gift set i'd feel ripped off :D It is cute though :p

Snap my first UU of the year too and wasn't too impressed. I was sat there questioning whether to stop buying balistics and just get the bath foam bars instead, which I probably will do bar a couple of my favs:)
Debt free and busy treating myself:)

No more toiletries/make up until I've used what I've got stashed since Jan 2011, graduated October 2012. Restocked Dec 13..damn those sales
