HTH. I found adding the challenge to my sig a massive help last year as I got to feel all proud each time I came to add a new UU to it. :D *puffs out chest with pride* :rotfl:

Thanks for the info. I am going to try and save £2 for every UU.

hello ladies, happy new year, christmas was a wash out so hope the new year will be better......funny think i said something similar last year:rotfl:

I am still feeling ill with bronchitus that started on boxing day,I usually get it in the winter but escaped last year(maybe the cold killed the bugs!)

Had a big sort out of toiletries yesterday and forced myself to throw stuff that was hardly used but that really did not suit me.I then made up a parcel for DS2s girl who has a birthday this month of an occitanne drawstring bag filled with occitanne minis(she is a fan so think she will enjoy it)She and DS2 are in OZ and I am wondering if they will come back engaged...watch this space.
For 3 years now I have said I want to do a jewelry making course and this year I am determined to go for it(only a morning making wire work cuffs...will try and post pic.
I really need to avoid buying toiletries this month as so many in the stash

hope you all had a great start to the new year:beer:

thank you pickle for starting the new thread:)

I think my final UU for 2011 came to 167:j I now have about 90 items in my stash (without shampoo and makeup) and would like to cut it down to 1 in use and 1 in stash so around 30. I need to stop buying so much in sales, although this time I have bought what I know I will use:j

my main aim is to get the lip balm stash down! there may be a day when I actually NEED to buy lip balm:eek:

    good luck everyone:D

Hello Ladies! Thanks inapickle for starting the thread.

Lovely to see so many new and/or returning faces :hello:

    Ok, this year...

I will not buy stuff just because it's in a sale.

I will not get drawn in to boots 3 for 2 offers - if I need something 1 will be plenty not 3!

I won't use my boots points "just because they're there".

I will not buy mags, papers etc for 'free' toiletries/nail varnish I don't need and am unlikely to ever use.

I will moisturise after every bath/shower in an attempt to use up some of the shelf full of creams/butters/lotions I have. Same goes for scrubs.

I will paint my nails at least once a week in an attempt to use up some of the 130+ NVs I have.

I will be active about swapping bits I don't use/like on the FB group.

I will sell anything I'll never use/is the wrong colour/wrong fragrance etc that's unopened on eBay.

I will wear make up at least every other day in an attempt to use up the massive box full of it I have.

I won't be as lazy about the challenge as I have been the past couple of months. I'll keep my list updated, keep my sig updated and remember to post here when I use something. And I will reward myself with £1 in to a sealed tin for every UU to be opened in December :j

Ok I think that's everything!! :rotfl:

    Happy new year ladies xx

Thanks Pickle for starting the new thread. I am up for continuing with this challenge. Later this year I will have been on this challenge for 2 years, my bathroom is less cluttered now and I have bought less since I joined. I also enjoy reading your reviews.

For the next couple of months I shouldn't need to buy anything apart from cotton wool. I shall also keep a "proper" list on how much I am spending on toiletries in 2012. In 2011 I spent approximately £150 on toiletries. I am planning on less this year.

Yesterday I went in to Boots to look at the sale and the only thing that I bought was a box of 5 small bottels of perfumes which was reduced to £9.50. When the 75% off sale starts this would be the only thing that I would keep my eyes open for.

Good luck to you all with this challenge.
No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23
    Boots points:£39.21. Extra money in 2012:£674.59. In 2013 £603.48. 2014: £85. 2015: £0 :j

    im in again!

my DH thinks I'm the saddest person in the world but I've got a proper inventory going with a fancy graph to show me the net result of each month with INs minus UUs and GAs. December had a total change of plus 2 which I'm pretty happy about considering it included xmas and sales :) last years was more like plus 50 so you ladies are definitely having an affect on me! :j

i figured total change is the best way for me to view it because if i have a UU and i need an immediate replacement it will just produce 1 UU and 1 IN and just balance out.

I wish I was that dedicated. I think I will try to make a list this year though as to how long each product takes me to use up cos then I should be able to budget better.
    moisturiser
    liz earle dry
    Bobbi Brown intensive moisturiser

    origins make a difference

Have snipped your list to ask you about these products. Have you tried them all? I've used the LE and Elemis ones however have received a tube of the Origins one from my SS and was wondering how they compare. I have used the LE and Elemis ones as night creams though as I love my Elemis PCMC during the day but am too mean to use it at night as well!

Have snipped your list again. Your makeup stash looks fab but couldn't help commenting on your nail lacquer stash! Some gorgeous colours in there. I've seen Illamasqua Stagnate recently whilst "researching" (obsessing over is a better description!) a replacement for the Sephora by OPI Break a Leg Warmer colour that is my new love (yes I would rescue this from the house if it were burning down!). Deborah Lippman as one that's similar in colour as well. How do you find her polishes? Was kicking myself that I did not pick up a full size of Mad as a Hatter and Affair in Red Square is my favourite red.

I agree re: putting your challenge status in your signature. I've changed mine to include my "pledge". See you've done really well with your other challenges as well Pickle. I joined the DVD challenge for a while but then realised that it's not my achilles heel - buying books used to be as well but I seem to be a reformed character in that respect now too.

Last month I set myself the challange to hit the 200 UU mark by the end of Feb and I am now sitting at 284 so not to far to go. I started in Oct 2010 so I guestimate I have UU over 240 items in 2011. There is no way I will be able to achieve that again but I would like 100 UU by the end of the year so I am hitting the magic 400 UU mark.

A big welcome and welcome back to those joining in or rejoining - lets thrash the stash!!

Here's another reason I should list how often I UU items cos then I could say the challenge is going somewhere even though I know it's changed my attitude towards purchasing toiletries greatly.

A big welcome from me too. The "Let's Thrash the Stash" slogan made me laugh. Can imagine it being said Jeremy Clarkson stylee! :rotfl:
Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

i did this last year (tho didn't post).

Happy New Year xoxo - have snipped your thread as these pledges apply to me as well.

    a) I think that now that we are in a recession there is no such thing as a genuine "sale". Retailers are reducing products all the time - it's becoming like DFS! How many times were TBS offering discounts over the course of 2011? I am trying to get to the point where I don't "jump to the phones" (reference to my past QVC habit) or start loading up the online basket because something is reduced. I have already deleted one email from TBS this morning offering me sale bargains. Notice I'm not totally reformed because I can't bring myself to unsubscribe from the emails yet!

    b) Actually, I've not done this for a while. It only leads to more stockpiling!

    c) I hardly ever amass Advantage Points - I have been known to use them up on meal deals which isn't the point really is it?

    d) Yes, this is a problem one for me. Is the gift free if it costs you up to £5. for a publication you won't read? I know I still have the Clinique freebies from some mag or other that I bought early last year! So am going to try to avoid these. Although if Instyle mag were to give away Elemis PCMC again I would have to buy!

    e) Yes, I'm gonna try and keep better record and I think saying £1.00 is a nice easy amount. I'm with you on this one.

i have tried them all, they are all repurchases apart from the origins one.

i love the LE ones. I've had a small superskin too that i got as a freebie but its far too rich for my skin. i have the dry as a night cream atm and i currently on the normal one as a winter day cream and light waiting in the stash as a summer one.

the elemis day cream is gorgeous though, my skin has changed for the worse since i stopped using it, hence the stockpile of elemis from the sales. i don't mind nearly £30 when i get a full size of that and loads of other stuff but i don't know if i can justify £30 on one tube of a cream :(

the bobbi brown one is gorgeous too but thats also £30 a pot :(

the origins one is just too much for my skin on a daily basis, I'm keeping it as a special extra dose of moisturiser when i see it and remember it. it made my cheeks go really red as soon as i put it on when i used it daily.

the deborah lippman colours are gorgeous but both of them chip really easily even with numerous coats of polish, base and top coat. they are also a complete nightmare to get off because of the glitter, they are worse than every other glitter polish i own! the bad romance one has much bigger glitter bits in than others too. i have to douse a cotton pad in remover and sit there with it soaking through each nail for at least 5 mins to try and get them off.
