although i will say, once you get into all this it does completely change your view on the whole industry. i don't believe any magical "reduces lines and wrinkles" "no more spots" "get curly hair with our shampoo!" "get 310% more volume with our mousse!" claims anymore and i think what they get away with claiming is just shocking.
I find most claims are pure bull **** and I am going to try not to buy the latest beauty. I have no idea why I have so much or why I keep buying but I will succeed.0 -
Well I think what I was hoping to read was what is drying/irritating and what really delivers moisture/nourishes skin and hair. What are just fillers and what really works? I seem to have read that nothing really works that well but nothing will caue you any harm either...maybe I'm in shock lol or have missed the point?
For example I was using the maccadamia healing oil on my hair and i got lovely results from it, then I did a bit of research and found it's mostly made up of silicones but I'm struggling to find a difinitive answer on whether/why silicones are bad and if a pure natural oil is better? If you see what I mean?
I'm finding the website a bit difficult to navigate too but I'm learning a lot!0 -

the problem with the beauty industry is it plays right into our insecurities and right where we would try it "just incase". like miracle creams, anyone worried about looking that bit older would listen to "will reduce lines and wrinkles" and pay more incase it works.
i know i look at spot creams and wonder if this one really will disappear a spot overnight even though i know only my immune response can shift a spot and if i want to avoid them i know i just have to cleanse regularly, moisturise and avoid dairy (it really does affect my spots, when i cut it out and changed to soy milk it all cleared up after a month).0 -
I find Origin blemish gel works wonders at drying up spots. Sudocrem is also good if you've picked a spot ( like I always do)!0

I really like aveda damage remedy as a weekly treatment just now, always get lovely results, and just bought a new one, so won't be trying the hair treatment from liz at the moment!
One more UU to report...a 30ml cleanse and polish. Plenty more where that came fromAll you need is less0 -
Had another UU this morning which was the Boots Extracts Mango body wash. WBA as smelt gorgeous and a little goes a long way, bit pricey for the full sized bottle for shower gel (this one was a smaller size out of a gift set) at around £4 odd but Extracts range is Fairtrade so don't mind paying a bit more - don't need any at the minute though though as plenty of shower gel and soap to get through!
I really like the Boots Extracts and Mediterrean range, one of my HG but agree fairly expensiveLife is a coin, you can spend it anyway you wish, but you can only spend it once.
Go as far as you can see, and when you get there you'll see further.
Take time but don't waste time0 -
A couple more UU to report.
Bomb Cosmetics foaming fudge handmade soap WBA smells lush, foams well and the smell spreads round the bathroom even when you haven't used it! Body lishuss cranberry body butter, WBA smeells lovely and the smell lingers for some time, very moisturising.Debt free and busy treating myself:)
No more toiletries/make up until I've used what I've got stashed since Jan 2011, graduated October 2012. Restocked Dec 13..damn those sales0 -

if you get good results from it and cant find a reason not to use it, id carry on using it.
unfortunately none of the ingredients will come with a "this works, this is irritating, this is useless" no matter where you look.
with what really works it will usually be plant extracts and the tried and tested stuff. there is very rarely new wonder ingredients discovered and if there are, it will be an anti ageing ingredient. thats where all the money is going atm.
olive, shea butter, jojoba, coconut, borage and almond oil amongst others are good at moisturising and replacing lost moisture.
tea tree and rosemary oil are anti bacterial oils.
frankincense is a good anti ageing oil.
comfrey will help heal skin disorders.
petrolatum and mineral oil will form a barrier on the skin and stop anything getting in or out. won't add lost moisture but will stop any there getting out.
parabens are the safest preservatives out there and will be listed with -paraben as a suffix.
most things that foam have SLS/SLES or ammonium laureth sulphate in. atm if it doesn't have SLS/SLES in i use it. I'm still deciding on ammonium laureth and its only in one thing i have anyway.
tocopherol is vitamin E extract.
glycerin will attract moisture.0 -
I'd let you off kiplingmonkey if you are running out of toner (don't have any in those 1356 products?? :rotfl:).
Well I can't say I don't have any but I don't have much Elemis left - about 3cms and I am using every evening at the moment with my Pro radiance cleanser.MoneyQueen wrote: »Is this really bad that I have ordered a Kipling bag just now? This is the one I have ordered

This looks fab but the vital detail was missing - what colour???evilsquid1603 wrote: »i haven't yet seen a good natural under eye concealer. I'm using the bobbi brown corrector/concealer and benefit erase paste. a powder alone just won't do the job those two do.
I think Bare Escentuals Well rested for eyes is one of the best under eye concealers I have ever used - you may have already tried it but it definately works for me.
Another UU today (and another £1 in the pot) - Gatineau melatogenine futur plus mask 15ml - leaves my skin soft but by the time I have used up all my masks it probably won't be made any more!0 -
ordered the toothpaste as currently only have 1 spare in for DD and 1 waiting for me to open for me and OH - so thanks for that
