On the other hand, just because something isn't proven by science to work (yet) that doesn't mean it doesn't.
it completely depends on the product, we've all had conventional products that are rubbish just like there will be natural ones that are rubbish. atm, there are really good skincare and toiletries out there that i think work just as well as conventional ones but you have to accept that they just won't give a big white foam when you use them.
make up is generally not there yet, especially eyeliners and mascaras. if you want a waterproof mascara you pretty much have to buy a normal one. colour ranges also tend to be smaller and you won't get crazy bright colours.
i think its partly accepting what toiletries will and won't do too. once you realise that i want a shower gel to clean me, a shampoo to wash my hair, a moisturiser to deliver moisture you realise that there are really great products out there that do just that without all the fancy bells and whistles and new "wonder ingredients" that cost you much more and have debatable real affect to your skin.FannyAdams wrote: »Oh I have 2 IN's (I'm tracking my spending on IN's in my sig) the first was Maccadmia Oio to try in my hair and the second is Dr Bronners Rose Castile soap - which looks all kinds of awesome and you can use it for everything apparently, we'll see.
i have some dr bronners in my stash too. its sat in the queue of shower gels thou so i won't be using it for a while yet.0 -
3 UU
Bourjois Ultra Black Clubbing Mascara - WNBA, felt it was very clumpy!
Skin Doctors eyetuck cream 3ml - WNBA. It feels lovely and cooling on the eyes. I shall enjoy using the other one but im sure i could find eyecream cheaper. Maybe just stick to samples
Crabtree and Evelyn Lily Body Lotion 5ml - x2- WBA, but only if i found myself a job haha..........i have so many other body lotions to get through...although im doing quite well in that department
I see that the Clinique mascara swap is back on up til the end of January. Itzybitzy do you still have the product to take and swap?

of all the ones I've had from all the different companies, last months was the best one. all the others I've peeked at the blogs before I've got mine and my reaction was always "oh thats nice. made my money back then." last months amarya was something like "oh wow! REN! oohhh gorgeous." then i realised the set was worth £28 :T
i can't wait to use it but its behind so much other stuff in the queue that if i don't force myself to use up now, will constantly end up in a cycle of "this is nicer, i'll use this first" that I'm trying to break.0 -
Hi all

Thanks for the heads up about the Clinique mascara swap! Will see if I can find any empties.
Just sold a haircare gift set, so that's UU/Out #3 of 2012. I know that's technically cheating, but I would never have used it... would've only kept it to admire the packaging :S0 -
Not one bit completelylost - however its out is fair game IMO
Cazz (love the pic of Hobbes btw!) - I do this too sometimes - (well I used to!) had some interesting layers of colour sometimes (only done it with soaps and bubble baths when ive done it up to now!) yes, smells interesting sometimes dont they !!!
welcome newbies !!Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup0 -

That's not cheating in my book, CL. Well done! It's not easy to release things into The Wild sometimes is it?0 -

with what really works it will usually be plant extracts and the tried and tested stuff. there is very rarely new wonder ingredients discovered and if there are, it will be an anti ageing ingredient. thats where all the money is going atm.
That's exactly how I feel - if a product works for me I'll buy it and continue buying it. I am still looking for some HG products though. I'd say my only HG product that I've stuck with for the past 5 years now is Elemis PCMC. I don't think I could find a replacement for this as the main ingredient is padina pavonica - wonder if this has been patented by Elemis.catslovelycats wrote: »CAzz, I haven't given a thought to my toiletry spending. Purely because I won't need to buy anything apart from deoderant/toothpaste for a VERY long time! But once I've cut back my toiletries to an amount that I really NEED to have I shall be making decisions about what brands I stick with and then be looking out for deals as and when.
Again, this is how I feel. I don't want to cut back on the cost of, say, my moisturiser but am always on the look out for the best bargainous way to buy it!
I have been busy listing some things on ebay (mostly clothes and DVDs) which I don't actually expect to sell but as it's free listing weekend worth a shot. Have also listed a few items on makeupalley only because I have seen the Sephora by OPI lacquer that I have been lusting after on there and am waiting to see if it's owner wants to swap. Will be even better if I can get the actual colour and not have had to pay anything for it.
Have repainted my nails too. Am now wearing Sephora by OPI I'm With Brad which is very similar to to another colour I own.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!
