  • Oh I have 2 IN's (I'm tracking my spending on IN's in my sig) the first was Maccadmia Oio to try in my hair and the second is Dr Bronners Rose Castile soap - which looks all kinds of awesome and you can use it for everything apparently, we'll see.

I'm having a stab at this one too. Mostly because I need to seriously cut back on spending for a few months but partly because after having cleaned out the 'toiletries' drawer I didn't realise how much stuff had accumulated.

It's not much compared to some peoples, but I have loads of little bottles of shampoo & shower gel which have been procured from hotels and B&B's. I keep them in case I go away somewhere but I always either forget, or end up somewhere which supplies yet more little bottles!

So I'm on a total UU for a while. I reckon we'll only have to buy deodorant and moisturiser for OH and everything else will last for about 3 months.

When everything's used up, is everyone on a mission to cut the cost of toiletries too? I've been looking into cheaper alternatives like using coal tar soap, and the Lush shampoo bar rather than liquid shampoo and think they might help cut the cost (although I don't spend a fortune anyway).
  • CAzz, I haven't given a thought to my toiletry spending. Purely because I won't need to buy anything apart from deoderant/toothpaste for a VERY long time! But once I've cut back my toiletries to an amount that I really NEED to have I shall be making decisions about what brands I stick with and then be looking out for deals as and when.

Yes I have to agree I need to stop spending, I have enough stuff bath, body stuff to last me a year and probably 9 months worth of shampoo and conditioner.
I have set myself a budget for 1 shop I have a problem with (not being able to stop spending) and I am cutting my budget for that shop by 85%.

    Hi all,

went and tallied up every product I have (including the little minis that have been snaffled from hotels over the past god-knows how many years- have a hat box full that my mother palmed off on me) and came to a total of 158 items! Determined to get this down a bit as the OH and I are planning on buying a place in the summer and don't want to be carting loads of stuff around... having a general declutter, actually, have a bin bag full of clothes to take to the CS too.

ANYWAY, have decided to try and use up these hotel minis, firstly because some of them must be quite old now and secondly because they wont take long and then I can have the pleasure of crossing them off the list (I think I make lists mainly for the pleasure of crossing things off!!)

So 2 more UU to report:

Had bath last night and finished off my Original Source Bath Foam Vanilla and Cocoa. WIBA? Mmm maybe. I got it for £1 on offer in Boots which wasn't bad but I was expecting it to smell more vanilla-y (my fave scent) and it just smelled of cocoa so... if it was on offer, perhaps? Still got a few bubble baths to use up though!

This morning used up one of my mini tubes of hotel body lotion. Obviously cannot buy again! Despite that it was pretty nice stuff with a lovely scent and it sank into my skin really fast!

Now I am on to another hotel body lotion!! hurray.

Hope everyone has been having a good weekend. I am battling a threatening cold, had a sore throat these past few days and achy eyes. Just what I DON'T need on my teaching practice!!

    xxx

I've either just done something sensible or stupid, I've decanted all of the little bottles of stuff into a soap dispenser to make one 'collated' bottle of wash so it makes my stash of toiletries look a lot better.

I seem to have a lot of little bars of soap though, they'll take a bit of getting through.

Another UU today - Co-op Aphrodite body spray. WNBA, I prefer spray to aerosol and not too keen on the fragrance.
Thanks both - I have seen them on Fragrance Direct and you can get money back through Quidco from them. I will shop around just to check they are a good price before buying though.

Think I got mine from Boots for half price - £25 down to £12.50. But that was a long time ago, so I don't know. Maybe try The Fragrance Shop? I looked on there and they're £14.99 for 30ml, free delivery and 10% off when you sign up for the newsletter. HTH.

It's made an interesting coloured gloop that's for sure. But it's just a mix of all the shampoos/shower gels so it worked fine, just doesn't smell like any of the ones which went into it.
