Well, the plasterers turned up yesterday when I was at work o render the chimmney. I then get a call from the builder saying the stack was cracked, and it would have to come down and be rebuilt! Great! I get home at 3.30, my mum and da have arrived, one look at mum's face, and I knew something was up.
Go into my CREAM, coffee and chocolate coloured sitting room, and find it.........covered in SOOT!!!!!ARGH!
I nearly cried. My dining room and my bedroom also have fireplaces, and they were ull of rubble from he chimmney. Went outside and called the bloke down from the scaffold, all I got was "Oh sorry, didn't know it would do that!" I rang the builder fuming, ten minutes later he's round aplogising. They've agreed to get my £150 rug professionally cleaned. Took me, mum, dad and Dawn my neighbour next door three hours to clean it all up! Her house was okay, (we share the chimmney) so I think she felt guilty, and came to help!
This morning I've taped black bags to the front o the fireplaces to contain anything else. I'm almost afraid to go to work this morning, don't know what I'l find when I get back!
It's really frosty this morning, no snow yet. That would put the top on it all!
Have a good day!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

JackieO-Happy Birthday
Heard from mum last night and sister not good at all. She has had her womb, cervix, part tubes and a large cyst removed from one of the ovaries:eek:   ...will be leaving straight from picking dd up from school today at 3pm. Should be there at about 4-4.30, will stop and get some of her fav lillies from Sainsburys, along with some Lucozade (she only drinks when not well) and some red seedless grapes. I just want to give her a hug and tell her everything will be ok.
Anyway, not much planned for the rest of the day. I have to have a shower, washing, put the DW on if OH works out how to do it:D and get stuff together for later. Also have the new cleaners coming in at 11.30 for 3 hours and need to have a chat with them as a few things didnt get done last week properly, although upstairs was lovely. I think they need to spend a little more time on downstairs as thats where I spend most of my time. They did very well though and its only a few minor things really.
Beds have been stripped and we just need a quick whip through to make sure fully tidy (which it is really!) as I believe cleaners are here to clean and not tidy:D
Anyway, Id better go as I have a letter to sign for school and money to hand over:rolleyes: ....again!
Hugs to all.

Good morning everyone!
Happy Birthday to JackieO
(and anyone I've missed in the days I've not been on the daily!)
Snowy - am thinking of you hun, and it will pass. It's a bit like the weather - it's really hard to imagine summer when you're in the middle of a freezing dark and gloomy winter - but when summer does finally come you appreciate it all the more. I know it feels worse than winter - but the worse it feels the better you'll get.
Penny - so sorry to hear about your sister, but she is lucky to have such a loving sister to help her through. You're a gem.
Hilstep - I think you did really well to keep your cool. If it were me I think I would've been at risk of being locked up for the night by the time I'd finished with the builder. I think somehow they'll be extra carefull today
Moggins - hope dd is better now, I did search out a post from you the other day and it said that she was recovering and eating a little. Any mysterious packages lately? Do PM me
Right, I should be making porridge now. It's college again today - Aromatherapy.... oh, such a hard life
A few flakes of snow here yesterday, but not a lot. It's forecast to for tomorrow night - but we'll see.
Still haven't had the chance to make welsh cakes..... in fact I don't think I've made them since I posted the recipie on here some months ago.....
Best wishes to everyone, and lots of hugs to all,

Good morning every-one, Happy birthday Jackie O.I tried pasting a birthday cake but it didnt work. Any-one care to tell me how i do that??
Today its another cold and frosty morning in Berkshire, but suprisingly no snow yet. This morning I will have to sit in again to wait for my maintenance officer to come, to assess whether or not we get a new bathroom.I started painting it but stopped and decided it was hardly worth it as the tiles are cracking/cracked and the skirting needs replacing. Anyway , we will see what he thinks when he finally turns up.DD went back to school yesterday and also went to bed ok last night, so hopefully it was a blip.
Washing machine is on and dishwasher needs emptying, quiche , jacket potato, coleslaw i think, for dinner.might nose around for a steam pudding reciope for afters. Not alot else to say except wrap up before you go out, have a good day every-one and hugs to those in need of one. Love Elaine.“Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. Your really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball.0 -
Morning :hello:
Not feeling great this morning. Spent half the night having bad dreams and fretting about the murder of the 15 year old boy you will have seen in the newsThis was almost literally on my doorstep (go 100 yards down my street and turn left!) and is the second black gangland-type murder in three days within 500 yards of my home (the first didn't get any media attention so I am guessing he was not an "innocent victim" like the second) and the fourth across all of South London in the same amount of time. I like this area a lot, so much good "regeneration" work has been done with it in the last few years, and I really hope this is not the start of a major comeback in black-on-black violence. I live only a couple of streets from where Damilola Taylor was killed, but that council estate has since been demolished and replaced with low-rise flats and houses - it feels like a safe area (though I am not daft enough to go down there at night). I want to be able to stay round here for many years to come, and although I don't feel personally threatened at all (as a white person with no links to the black community) I have been enjoying seeing the area go uphill, not down!
I have started to do some research into getting involved with local community projects and/or local politics so I can have some actual input into preventing local young people from going down the wrong track.
Anyway I need to be going to work soon, I ought to be in a bit early so I can take a long lunch break to go and meet up with Shez, Penelope Penguin and MushyPeas :T
Penny-Pincher!! - sorry your sister is not good. I hope she starts making a good recovery soon
EDIT: Happy Birthday to my honorary OS mum, JackieO!
Love Rzl xx :wave:Operation Get in Shape
