Losing a much loved pet is very hard.
Try and console yourselves with the thought that you gave her 12 happy years of life.

i am such a softie where dogs are concerned, after reading thread tears have !!! easy. my dog is only 4 but sometimes i wonder how i would cope when the time comes.especially as recently he cut his paw and my 10 yr old was practicaly hysterical.
my thoughts are with you and family at this time, people may mock the way people are with pets but it is similar to losing a family member, like others have said shes not in pain and no doubt led a charmed life unlike some dogs you hear of.
best wishes 2 you all.xxJust to win anything would be great!!0 -

Do not cry, for I have found true peace,
And though I'm sad, my aches do cease,
I know you wanted me to stay,
But it can't always be that way.
Do not cry, for now the fields I pass,
I play and frolic in the grass,
My friends love me and I am free,
For this is how it's meant to be.
Do not cry, for I am not alone,
I have a huge and juicy bone,
The water here is crystal clear,
Never again will I feel fear.
Do not cry, for though you miss my love,
I watch you from the skies above,
And there are lots more troubled souls,
That need you to refill their bowls.
I can't take credit for this, it was sent to me when in the same situation to you. !!!!!!!!{hugs}}}}}Do not allow the risk of failure to stop you trying!0 -
I STOOD BESIDE YOUR BED LAST NIGHT
I stood by your bed last night, I came to have a peep.
I could see that you were crying, You found it hard to sleep.
I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear,
"It's me, I haven't left you, I'm well, I'm fine, I'm here."
I was close to you at breakfast, I watched you pour the tea,
You were thinking of the many times, your hands reached down to me.
I was with you at the shops today, Your arms were getting sore.
I longed to take your parcels, I wish I could do more.
I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, that I'm not lying there.
I walked with you towards the house, as you fumbled for your key.
I gently put my paw on you, I smiled and said "It's me."
You looked so very tired, and sank into a chair.
I tried so hard to let you know, that I was standing there.
It's possible for me, to be so near you everyday.
To say to you with certainty, "I never went away."
You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew ...
in the stillness of that evening, I was very close to you.
The day is over... I smile and watch you yawning
and say "Goodnight, God bless, I'll see you in the morning."
And when the time is right for you to cross the brief divide,
I'll rush across to greet you and we'll stand, side by side.
I have so many things to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out ... then come home to be with me.

Feel for you! I too am in tears as I can only imagine what it feels like to have to make that decision, my dog is four and is just like one of my children and I dread that day coming! :grouphug:
NEVER REGRET ANYTHING THAT MAKES YOU SMILE:D0 -
Westy,
It's so difficult when you have to let a beloved pet go, but what you have done is to give your girl the greatest gift you could in return for her years of love and loyalty and that is the gift of a peaceful and dignified end.
Having pets is such a rewarding thing, but having to say goodbye is the hard part. When I have to say goodbye to one of ours, I console myself by remembering that pain is the price we pay for love, and even though the pain is terrible at the time, it is, in the great scheme of things, a small price to pay for the joy and companionship that our pets have brought us.
Grieve all you need to and one day the pain will have eased and the wonderful and treasured memories will be her legacy to you.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.0
